I hear reference on the forum as to someone being a Troll. What exactly is that? Is there a way to mark it as spam?

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion

On these forums its generally anyone who doesn't agree with your point of view.

That is rather an unfair statement. I have read a few discussuions here where posters were of a different opinion and were able to exchange their view without insult.

I would think it's pretty fair. While there are many here who can have a constructive disagreement, when you see the word 'troll' here is is generally used just as Brian describes.

Hey bikinichris , did you know that cycle helmets are not a very clever head wear for cyling ? A survey done over here in the UK found that motrists took greater risks with the wearers than the none wearers . Safe cycling !

Troll ;)

But seriously, that's pretty laughable. Did the study find out why? Otherwise it can be explained as a backlash against the racers who break traffic law so often when training.

It certainly won't change my opinion of helmets. I raced for many years and broke many helmets in crashes and saw many people have horrible crashesonly to walk away. Helmets save lives by reducing the deceleration your brain goes through when you slam your noggin on the road (or a car hood). Helmets save faces and noses too!

Did you also hear about the helmet "study" done in Australia that claimed that helmets cause neck damage? What good is a neck if you can't put together a coherent sentence? I know people with brain damage (from car crashes) and you don't want that.

Some people claim they have crashed and since they never hit their head YET, they don't want a brain bucket. Some people win the lottery too.

I teach cycling courses for a living. I teach the five levels of crash protection. We consider helmets as a last resort of protection. I don't want to use my helmet, but I would never get on a bike without one.

have little risk of riding without one...

I rarely wear a hermit in my car, the police don't like it, and neither do the hermits... :(

So Dave, on the rare occasions when you do wear a "hermit", how do you like it and how do you put one on?

Hermits are becoming scarce as the economy tanks. It used to be they'd come into town twice a year to restock, but the pickings are slim. And they're getting lazy, so it's just a question of catching one hitch-hiking and.... :(

In my opinion people who post rubbish like this about helmets are brain dead.

Presumably you wear a helmet when in a car, climbing stairs or in the bath; since you are more likely to damage your brain in those situations than you are on a bike.
