Hi all,

Ok, I need to ask a question for a friend (who is not on dpreview). I'm not a canon user, and I've not been able to (easily) find a clear answer after a google search:
  • is the connector type for a remote trigger cable the same on an R5C as it is on an R5?
I assume yes, given that they are almost the same camera body, but I need to know 100% (my friend is about to head into a war zone, in two days, and it's _me_ that is suggesting the use of a remote trigger).

I want them to be able to set the camera up as a remote unit with a view of a scene, to reduce their risk, so I thought a radio/wired trigger might be good. But all the Amazon trigger cable descriptions mention the R5, and there isn't time to be able order and test it, and send it back if it's wrong.

Thus my admittedly very basic question.

Many thanks in advance for any help,

Chas

The R5C uses the same N3 type connector as the R5. That is the one with the silver outer locking collar around a black plastic plug with 3 terminals inside, not the one that looks like a 2.5 mm mini jack plug (E3 connector).

Some of the 3rd party versions of this connector lack the locking collar (eg Yongnuo wireless triggers) but work just fine.

I'm very grateful for the confirmation, thanks so much!

Yes. I just used the same remote connector on both the R5 and R5C this weekend. No issues. And it's also the same remote I've been using since the 5D3. Feels like the only accessory I didn't have to update when I switched to mirrorless.

An accessory you didn't have to update? Will miracles never cease! ;-)

Thanks very much for the confirmation, I really appreciate it.
