It's time for a tripod upgrade. I currently use
Vanguard VEO 265AB
Overall its been pretty good. I like the folded size as it can hang on my lowepro bag with no issues. The heaviest gear I use is a gripped D750 with 70-200 2.8. The vanguard did fairly well with the weight but when you want low level shots the center column becomes an issue. Yes you can remove the column but its not the most convenient. I tend to hike a bit so portability is one of my items on my checklist.
I've been looking at the Manfrotto 055 series and see it is available in both 3 and 4 leg sections. The 4 leg section one breaks down a little smaller than the other but its a little jump in overall length when mounted to a backpack. Also these typically do not come with a carry case or bag so I would like to try and keep the present transport method of my backpack. The articulating boom on the Manfrotto also looks like an easer way to get low shots as the legs can be splayed out more since the center column is out of the way.
Is the 3 section version significantly more stable than the 4? I don't typically use the tripods at full height most of the time. Mostly outdoor use and some indoor use. I also prefer clamp locks over twist locks for the speed of setting up. Even the Vanguard has never had any legs slipp
MT055CXPRO3 Carbon
MT055CXPRO4 Carbon
I have an option to get the 3 section one for about 200.00 USD (second hand) but looks in good shape. It does not come with a ball head either. Speaking of which.. All of my plates are arca swiss style. Will this be difficult to overcome with the Manfrotto tripods?
Are there any issues with the Manfrotto MHXPRO-BHQ6 XPRO Ball Head with Top Lock Quick-Release If I am reading this correctly it will accept arca swiss mounts.
Thanks in advance.
