Time lapse Issue

I seem to be having issues using my Eos R in a time lapse setting with some lag occurring between random shots. For example:

a 1 second shot with a 2 second interval using a remote results in a miss every 2 or 3 shots. ISO value does not affect this.

a 15 second shot needs at least an 18 second interval to be reliable. ISO value not a factor.

I am using an Aputure intervalometer so that could conceivably affect it, but if I merely hold my finger on the shutter button for 1 minute (no interval), I get the following results:

2 second shots at ISO 100 is fine

2 second shots at ISO1600 gets 18 shots in 1 minute (my 6DII gets 27 shots)

2 second shots at ISO3200 gets 15 shots in 1 minute (my 6DII gets 27 shots)

anything below 1 second fires normally when I hold down the shutter button and there is no lag at all.

all noise reduction, lens aberrations, etc have been turned off.

Using an EF lens on the Canon mount adapter. Have also tried the Cascable app and get the same results.

I’ve contacted Canon Support who’ve asked me to send in the unit but as I’m traveling long term, that’s not practical. Any advice or suggestions greatly appreciated!

cheers

Response from Canon is:

“We have heard back from the team now and they've been doing some looking into this and testing. They've spoken to the product specialists and have been advised that even when the options are turned off in the menu, there is processing that happens on the RAW file when the exposure time is above a certain threshold, and this may cause the “BUSY” icon to appear. The camera processing on the EOS R works differently to the EOS 5D Mark IV, so you will find that the time it takes to process images in certain scenarios may be different. In these situations, they have advised that you would need to allow a longer interval between shots for the images to be captured at a consistent rate for a time-lapse or use the Time Lapse movie mode.”

so no real consistency on time lapse intervals unless you opt for a 3 or 4 second interval...

Pretty much!

I tested this theory earlier this morning on a 5D MK IV and the R. Same cards, same camera settings, same wired remote. The 5D MKIV was capturing something like 60% more images in a minute on a 2 or 3 second interval at 1600 ISO and 100 ISO (I didn't bother with 3200). At first I thought it might be the remote, so I changed to another one, and there was no difference. This has to be a buffering issue.

After testing, I immediately called CPS and detailed my testing to them. I also stressed to them to read your post from 5 days ago, and try to replicate the issue.

The same applies on a 6D ii - 18 sec interval for 15 sec shutter speeds, 28 or 29 sec interval for 25 sec shutter speeds - that is using the built-in intervalometer, not an add-on. Anything less, and it skips shots.

That's the same with any camera and an external intervalometer. You need to have the interval set 3-5 seconds longer than the exposure time. It allows the camera to write the exposure to memory.

i was trying to shoot a timelapse on 1 sec intervals for a smooth motion timelapse. But Eos R doesn't allow anything below 2 sec .

Do we have anyone faced the same issue ? And do we have a sollution to this ?
