Dear All

Just for talk and share I'd like your opinion

I really have too many cameras/lenses

Olympus OM1 + EM1.2 + Panasonic GX80

Olympus 7-14/2.8, 12-100/4, 40-150/2.8, 100-400, 17/1.2, 45/1.8, 75/1.8, MC14
Panasonic 15/1.7, 25/1.4
Samyang fisheye 7.5/3.5

Nikon Z6

Nikon Z 24-70/4, 24-200, 50/1.8
Nikon AF-S 80-400G, 200-500G
Samyang fisheye 12/2.8

Bonus camera Fuji X100V

I'm a casual photographer now (previously I was into sport and wedding photography as a job, now I'm IT and photography is "only" my passion)

I shoot mainly my family, but I also like to do travel photography, street, bif, hike

OM1 is really good on AF and IBIS is truly awesome, but IQ is behind in several situation. for example I find that haze is way more troublesome than on Nikon, even at low iso. for general shooting IQ is good enough, if exposure is right, otherwise the file is not so forgiving as Nikon NEF

otoh Nikon has amazing IQ, but AF for fast subjects is no good with any lens I have (adapted ones are way slower than they were on D500, which I sold) and I miss m43 capability to close focus for near macro experience.

any time I have to go somewhere I'm always debating on which camera to bring with me, X100V is always included, em1.2 and gx80 are always left behind.

OM1 is good for bif, but IQ is not always up to what I'd like and I need to PP in dxo. Nikon is amazing but I miss m43 small lenses

so in the end, what would you do?

1. get rid of Nikon and purchase Oly300/4? (my fear is that IQ will not increase as much as I'd like)

2. get rid of m43 and purchase Nikon Z8? (the only interesting camera, but it's big and heavy)

3. sell everything and go with Canon r6II? :-P

as I said, this is just for fun, for discussion and share ideas

Before selling anything, I'd invest in some noise reduction and sharpening software, and learn how to use it well, to see how much better quality you can pull from MFT, and if it's enough to satisfy.

On the Z6, are you up-to-date on its firmware? Nikon has supposedly had considerable focus improvements since introduction, and then further improvements with the Z6ii. With all the Nikon glass you have, the most economical solution (for full frame) might be to buy a Z6ii, or wait for the Z6iii.

If it doesn't bother you, it doesn't bother me. No need to rationalize at all unless you genuinely want to.

The yardcoyote is the proud owner of a highly irrational collection of gear. (Gear list is not correct-- stuff has come in, stuff has gone out.) Ask about our 50mm and 50mm equivalent primes across three systems! Soon to be overtaken by 40mm and 40mm equivalents!

The problem is really simple, my wife will kill me if I add more stuff without selling something

Another idea is to decide which system use for bif

if m43 is good enough with the oly 300, I can think to sell oly 100-400 and nikon 80-400

Maybe I can keep 200-500 for a future z6iii with hopefully same af from z8 but smaller, lighter body

another option is to go only with nikon with z8 with 200-500 and add 40/2 for portability and maybe 85/1.8 too, but I’ll miss the amazing 40-150 from oly (nikon 70-200 is again big and expensive)

I’ll try to calculate how much I’ll lose and probably decide to stay like I am now

Fair enough. BIF is a demanding calling, both in terms of skill required and in terms of the cost of big heavy gear. I count myself very lucky that I've never had any interest in it at all.

But if I wanted super long lenses for some reason, I would get them for the smallest sensor I could live with.
