Sunpak makes a small flash similar in output to the Speedlite EX220, but the Sunpak 2000 can swivel up to bounce off a ceiling. It sells for about $100 in the US. It provided full TLL capability in a small, posketable unit for the 5D. See http://www.tocad.com/sunpak/flashunits.html
Alas, when the 5D Mark II came out, Canon changed the TTL firmware and the Sunpak wouldn't fire at all. Sunpak's US distributor Tocad reports that the factory in Japan hopes to have a new version available "by the end of February" that will work on the Mark II.
(Note that Ritz sells the same unit under the Quantaray brand and it will presumably get the update.)
