Slideshows - Photoshop Album?

Can anyone recommend a decent slideshow program? I need to be able to specify the length of time each slide is displayed; attach an audio clip to individual slides and have a background soundtrack running too. Finally this needs to be burnt as a self-running CD.

I have evaluated ProShow Gold which does everthing I need. However, it is very buggy to use and ultimately useless because the final slideshow decides to stop playing any sound after about a third of the slideshow, at least, on 4 of the 5 PCs I've tried it on!

I'm hoping that Photoshop Album will do it all but I've not read confirmation of this.

Tim, I recently downloaded ProShow Gold and it has been working great. Maybe try reloading the program or contacting their tech support. BTW I am using Windows ME - maybe it works differently on other operating systems?

I have used ArcSoft ShowBiz with success. It allows for individual slide lengths, 2 simultanious audio tracks, transitions, and effects. I used MyDVD to create a DVD using content developed with ShowBiz and it turned out great.

Don't get me wrong, I think ProShow Gold is an excellent programme apart from the sound problems, which, incidentally, their tec support are aware of and have replied promptly to my queries on a couple of occasions. They also admit that not all of the sound issues have been addressed on the latest release posted in the last day or so. Having said that, I also think the software is overpriced even if it worked properly!! Bearing in mind that the forthcoming Adobe Album is cheaper and should do a whole lot more - BUT - does it do multimedia slideshows....?

I have been authoring on an XP machine and the replay problems have been evident on XP, ME and 98SE PCs.

Album does have the ability to include video clips but I think slideshows are only viewable in Acrabat format. I need the ability to create an executable version that will run on any computer, and also like the ability to create video to play on a DVD player with the same program. "We are currently addressing these issues in an upcoming release. Make sure you are currently running 1.03 version 1303. You might try making sure that the Windows 98SE machines have a current version of DirectX installed on them. We use DirectSound (a component of DirectX) to play the audio and we've run into problem with particular older versions. Let me know if updating DirectX helps to resolve the problem. If not, I can email you a pre-release version of ProShow that fixes some, but not all, audio issues."

BTW updating DirectX to V9 had no effect on the problems.

I'm certainly interested to find out whether Album will produce self-running slideshows too...

Tim,

I'm a beta tester for ProShow Gold and am interested in what you've written. I also moderate an unoffical ProShow Gold forum (if you're intereested, it's here: http://www.barcin.net/forum/ ) and I had a similar question posted recently. The solution for THAT individual was to update to the most recent DirectX version. One other thing that I noticed is your software version. I am using version 1.04 build 1316, which is several versions newer than the one you've used. Perhaps that will help with the problem.
