S100FS flash sync speed?

I did a little experiment.

See the flying earcleaners. Taken with internal flash at 1/4000 sec.
wow. I wouldn't have expected that to work so well.

What sort of metering/exposure were you doing? I would imagine there was no ambient light input at all in that image at that speed, so did the camera meter or sis you have to dial in some big positive compensation factor?

Maybe fuji designed the popup flash to have a very fast duration time which would be excellent!

I tried an oly FL50 on the S100FS hotshoe (I bought the camera at last!) and while it worked fine, it certainly started to show exposure dropoff as you climbed into the thousandths of a sec range. But I think I need to get an isolating mount in case any of the contacts rub through the black paint and short out on any metal. Might not matter ... might blow the flash!

It was a very simple experiment without accurate preparations and the only thing I had to do was setting the selftimer at 10 sec. So I had some time to drop the earcleaners. After some efforts you get your picture with earcleaners. And the flash light was sufficient at 1/4000 sec and F 11 ! Now I know you can do this with this camera I will use this for a more serious try in the future.

Gareth, congradulations to your new bought !!

:)))
Thanks Tony!

It was mainly you and Packy who persuaded me in the end to go for it with your samples :-)

So far, I'm very happy with it. I need to use it in anger a bit (might pop out later this afternoon in fact after my sunday lunch has gone down a bit!... I saw your macro shots and have been a bit inspired :-)

Got to say that so far though, I'm very pleasantly surprised as to how the lens seems to be pretty sharp even wide open at all focal lengths and I don't know if its because I've been shooting RAW and converting in Lightoom (which does a lot of default cleaning up of stuff) but I can't say I've seen ANY CA of relevance so far. So for me, and CA issue is irrelevant now because I know my particular camera doesn't have enough to show up in any prints I do and I suspect it may hardly have any at all anyway! lets hope eh?

So thanks again to YOU!

Cheers

Anytime Gareth.

But I can't wait to see your photos posting here :)))

You mean you like brick walls and high ISO tests ???

;-)

Most of the other things I shoot these days would need permission from the subjects, so I don't have a lot to show.

Maybe I'll just send you a private link to the website. Not many disgusting pics there though either :-)
