Resize for Web

I used to shoot with my G2 with resolution set to L and compression at S.

While I can use Photoship to resize to smaller file for web posting, I find it very time consuming to do it one by one, even using the "Actions" command that already saved a lot of effort, afterall, I still need to manually do it one picture at a time. Do you know of any better way that I can automatic the process by storing all the picture in a Folder than activiate a commend to do all the resizing on its own?

thanks for your advice. Do this program handles output bigger than thumbnails. I hope that I can post to web at something like 1000x650.

Don't let the word "thumbnail" scare you. You can resize at any size you wish. It also gives you options to sharpen, brightness, etc. It also gives you a choice as to JPG compression.

Alien- there may be a more elegant way to do this in Photshop, but here is one method that definitely works.

Put all images in one folder, then File/Automate/Web Photo Gallery

Then browse to where the images are and set your Destination folder.

Then under Options, select Large Images. Here you will see Photoshop's standard resizing options, jpeg compression etc. Set things the way you want them then click OK.

This builds an entire web gallery that can be published on the web as is, complete with index pages and thumbnails that link to your larger sized images. Since this is more than you asked for, just go to the destination directory you had set above, and you will now see a subfolder called images. This is the one with your resized photos.

You don't use the Automate/batch command? It takes a few minutes to set up, but surely no longer than to install a new program.

Why do you resize for web posting? Is it to speed rate of upload? or is the quality of a photo poor if you post without resizing? I have noticed a degradation in quality of G3 photos that I posted on the Ofoto website? Would they be better if I resized? How much should they be downsized?

Smaller files take less time to upload, less time to download (for those who would be looking at my web site) and most importantly take up less web space than the full size images.

My ISP gives me 10mg of web space per username and I have 6 user names. If I did not resize, I would only be able to put up 5 - 6 images on each web site.

You can also use a PowerToy tool called picture resizer. Free download from Microsoft. I don't know if PowerToys for non WinXP has this feature, I don't remember it being there. With it you just right click on the folder and choose the size and other options.
