quality of print using fuji s2

please tell me i'm doing something wrong! i have tried printing photos at 6 and "12 million" (not raw) on my olympus p-400 to 8x10's and 11x17's without any major difference in the quality compared to my old olympus 2500 (2.5 million pixel) camera! will somebody please enlighten me!

I'd love to help -- as would others, I'm sure -- but I think we need some more info.

Are you printing these yourself, or having them commerically done? If you're doing it yourself, what type of printer are you using? What type of computer are you using (e.g., Mac or PC)? What software are you using to print your images?

I'm certainly getting stunning results at 11x17" (the largest size I've tried so far).

Sorry... it's late. You answered my first two questions in your original post. It would still, though, be helpful to know what type of computer and which software package you're using for printing.

it would help alot if you could give some ideas and specifications about the files, both old and new ones: resolution, size, output quality etc......

probably yopu might have those files still 72 dpi

this will not help but helps to see what you have done

I guess I'm not sure what you are suggesting. My first two digital cameras were a G1 and E-10 and to tell you the truth, I can't say that prints from my S2 are any better than those at the sizes you suggest. What I can do now is use great lenses, control the DOF and make larger prints. To me, these are worth the upgrade.

Your 2500 provided enough resolution to get high quality prints from your printer at smaller print sizes. For a given print size, increasing resolution past the optimal resolution for your printer won't buy you any perceptible increase in detail since your printer can't render anything finer.

What you gain over your old setup is the ability to crop your shots and still retain detail, or to create larger prints with high quality.
