Hi,

I have a frustrating problem that has just started recently whilst editing my raw files on the OM Workspace software. As soon as I edit any new file the thumbnail changes to random pictures that were taken two years ago, the exported file seems to have applied the correct edits to the proper image? I have tried unloading the software and reloading it, and have deleted those files from two years ago and it is still happening. It makes it quite difficult to select images from your grid layout (and very confusing when a heron from Hampshire turns into a hummingbird from Costa Rica)!!

Have you updated to the newest version? Have you tried uninstalling the software and reloading it?

Might not work but worth a try.

It sounds like a problem with corruption in the database (Options - Basic - Database Location). However, I don't have a way to easily find out what the problem might be. You might try clearing the cache or deleting those files from the database, but I would backup to database to another location before trying any modifications.

Thank you, but I have uninstalled the SW.

I have tried to delete everything I can find relating to OM workspace (I haven't specifically seen a cache) tried loading my raw files in a different location, tried raw files from my EM5ii and OM1 and (accidentally) deleted all my Costa Rica files, and it still likes turning all new files into my old hummingbird pictures - the main image also briefly becomes that old image before returning to what it is meant to be - and this only happens to the raw files not the jpegs?

See the attached for Database location, and two caches.

You could try changing the cache names to something like Oldcache, and forcing WS to create a new cache.

If that doesn't work, then you might have to delete the WS database files, but then none of the WS things you have done would be saved.

Thank you, but I can't seem to move the cache location in the software, it says failed to relocate when I have created a new location. I can only see the various files through the OM SW options (as you indicated).

I cannot replicate your file location as my computer shows a different sequence, this ending at OM Workspace:

C:\Program Files (x86)\OMDS\OM Workspace

Unfortunately no, in fact even the main image sometimes becomes the same as the thumbnail, quite frustrating as I have just returned from India with thousands of images to edit!

I have contacted OM and they seem to have finally grasped the nature of the problem and are supposed to be coming back to me but I'm not too hopeful?

What I probably need to find out is how to eliminate all traces of WS when I unload the SW, I can't even locate the random historic images on my computer?

Ultimately, I have done a partial reset of my laptop, meaning I have had to reload a lot of Apps (most of which are not missed). On the plus side, removing the acquired clutter of many years, has made my laptop a lot more responsive :-)

Thanks for the reply. I've sent videos of the problem to them. Yes the main image displays as another image. It makes editing tedious. Do you import from multiple cameras? Or have you switched any of your SD cards from one camera to another without reformatting first? Are you using different brands of SD cards? When you import is the option to also import log files checked?

Did you ever solve the thumbnail problem? It seems to happen when editing a photo on my machine. Photos that are not edited are fine. Also If I delete the cache of thumbnails it fixes some of the files. And if I move a file to a different folder inside workspace, then delete the cache, it fixes the file until I edit it again. The interesting part is the new thumbnail after moving it is different than the thumbnail in the original folder, so it seems to be related to location which thumbnail/preview it uses, so this is a clue for the programmers. I'm tempted to import files with other software, but I get the best results with workspace, and I want to keep all of my edits from 2012 (Olympus OM-D E-M5) onwards.

What a mess this software is. There are many posts in Japanese about the problem, even on Kakaku.com, so it probably isn't helping with sales.

I didn't hear back from OM but because I recently came back from India with a lot of images to edit I decided to risk a part reset on the laptop which meant I had to reload a lot of programs (including OM) but it did resolve the problem. It leaves all your files intact etc but on the plus side my laptop runs a lot better with a lot of stuff I never use removed?
