***Mini Challenge #254: Distorted Perspective***

I feel your pain. I did not even check on contest results last week I was so busy with work. I was utterly unprepared mentally to run the contest. I do have along weekend "off" (doing plumbing repairs at our mountain cottage in Big Bear), so I was able to spend some time yesterday and this morning on final judging.

First most, relax. It is a chance for you to have some fun too. You set the rules and you make the decisions. People on this forum are generous about your choices, which is one reason I post here. Pick something that interests you and see what happens!

Great story on how you got the shot. A unique alignment of elements to make a special shot, and you were prepared to see it and shoot it.

Can anyone identify this scorpion? I just stepped on it, barefoot. I'm wondering if it is a bark scorpion, which is the only one with truly dangerous venom in these parts (Southwest USA).

No matter, fortunately, as I apparently crushed the end of its tail before it could sting me. I think... unless that slight numbness and tingling in my heel is neurotoxin... (Just kidding!)
A dose from this would have certainly distorted my perspective!

Dan, thanks for the HM and your comments!

Regarding the sailboat dof, that's about as good as it gets with my lens (400mm at F5.6). The background is 5 mi from the camera and the boats were probably 1/2 mile out.

Very interesting challenge, and well judged.

Yeah Dan thanks for the moral support. I am kind of new to this forum but find it to be a reasonably relaxed and grounded one with intelligent contributors like yourself.

I'll start a new thread for the next challenge sometime today after i have reviewed
and familiarized myself with the usual procedure.

cheers, Ron

...in the making of this picture!

Just to make myself clear. This picture is all about technique.

I took my shoes OFF! I tied them without my feet inside, crawled to the edge on my belly, and placed the shoes on the edge. Then I backed up, put the camera on a tropod, and took the picture from a safe distance.

At no time was I at any risk of falling.
CityLights: Vertigo

As I mentioned earlier, this shot still makes me laugh. CL will have to provide the back story on how he made this shot. I tried a similar shot at Toroweep in the Grand Canyon. As I carefully shuffled my feet to the edge and raised the camera to my eye, a sudden wind gust hit me and I had to abruptly drop to my ass to avoid loosing my balance. Never did get the shot, it was too freaky. CLs shot reminds me of that moment every time I see it. He found a way to pull it off...

Haha! That's really cool! Never would have thought this picture was taken this way, I actually thought someone is holding you while you are taking the shot.. :)

Thumbs up for the original idea!

...and to answer your question, that is me taking a pic of a mirrored sculpture art installation in a park next to the Pacific ocean. I'm not sure I like the sculpture itself but enjoyed it's reflective properties. Thanks again.
