Here' is a little non-scientific comparison between the two classic cameras. All photos taken using daylight WB and developed in Raw Photo Processor using built-in camera profiles.

As you can see, the difference in colour reproduction is quite dramatic, especially green vs magenta. The pictures look as if they were shot on different film stocks. What about reality? I guess, it was somewhere in between. Who cares :)

Interesting! I have to day that I noticed something similar to a certain extent.

On the other hand, your test is not scientific: you used different lenses (that can have different color casts), different focusing (LoCa can be involved), different days and time of the day (apparently, as the K10D time is likely wrong due to the battery problem).

I wonder if this has to do with CCD vs CMOS, in an indirect way: were some color filter array dyes easier to apply on the surface of the CCD than on CMOS? Or is color channel mixing more prevalent in one design than the other?

Regardless of accuracy, what is your color preference between the two outputs?

Yes, it was about the same time but on different days. I am too lazy to carry both cameras with me :(

No idea :)

The K10 is definitely better for portraits. For landscapes, urban scenes and flowers, it depends on the subject. Both are good but in different ways.

If I need a colour correct output, e.g. for art reproduction, I use the more modern KP or better, the Canon 6D.

Not quite a correct comparison, since both cameras use lenses from different manufacturers. The only correct method is to put any Pentax SMC Coated on both bodies and then the difference in the picture will be even greater:)

Your post suggest you misunderstand how raw developers work. The look you get is based on the (almost always) hidden settings of the raw developer.

Adobe, for instance, is completely useless for comparing anything but what default settings they have choose for each camera. Still the internet is full of lunch comparisons...

To see anything other than what default processing a software has chosen you need to use developers that truly allow you to turn everything off. I think that's basically only Rawtherapee and darktable but even with them they rely on a colour matrix that sets the look.
