I’ve been running some tests of a lightmeter app for iPhone using the calibrated light source on a Reveni Labs Camera Tester. Tests were run on a iPhone 12 Pro using the myLightMeter Pro app. I also used a Sekonic L758D as a reference meter on spot mode. First number is the EV setting for the panel, second the reading on the Sekonic, third the myLightMeter reading.

EV L758 iPhone

17 17.1 17.3

16 16.1 16.3

15 15.1 15.3

14 14.1 14.3

13 13.1 13.3

12 12.1 12.3

11 11.1 11.3

10 10.1 10.3

9 9.1 9.3

8 8.3 8.7

7 7.6 8.0

As you can see the iPhone app I tested is pretty accurate. I would assume that there’s a good consistency between the various iPhone apps, although I haven’t tested any other apps. For Android I don’t know, although my guess is the accuracy will vary depending on the particular phone model more than for the iPhones.

I have no connection to Reveni Labs, Sekonic or the authors of myLightMeter Pro other than being a customer.
