How to make a high-resolution image with the OM-1

… the images, whether hand-held or on a tripod, are still not nearly as sharp as normal resolution OM-1 images…
What lens are you using?

I've found that, with inferior lenses, Hi-Res produces blurry results.

But with PRO lenses, I do not see what you are seeing with HHHR — it has more detail than normal ORF files.
I could be wrong but I suspect the issue is how the HR files are processed. There is no reason to believe that Oly/OMDS do sensor shift the same as everyone else. In fact, if they are anything like Oly in the past, it would deliberately be a proprietary process. It's little wonder then that other apps can't quite emulate OM WS on OMDS HR files.
Using LrC, I have been able to get close to the WS HR output, but not quite, yet WS does it in one hit. If only WS was more user friendly, not GPU specific and the output was in other than just JPG or TIFF. Can't complain too much though, it's a freebie after all.

I'm an Adobe resister. Used to teach Photoshop classes, but quit using all Adobe products when they went subscription.

I do agree with you about OM Workspace — both that it does a better job with Olympus/OMDS RAW files than anyone else, and also that it is pretty slow, obtuse, and hard to use!

Lol! Yeah, I was an Adobe resistor too. I tried to get out. Then I realised I risked loosing over a decade of cataloguing and keywording work. Yes, I know, they say it can be done, but I can't take that risk. So, sadly, Adobe have got me good.

You detail the very reason why I have never used any product related cataloguing. I thought maybe I was being unreasonably cautious but you suggest I may have been right.

When your subscription expires, you will still have access to everything except Develop module, Map module, and mobile sync.

You can import new photos and organize them even without a subscription.

I'm with you Jan. Dumped everything Adobe years ago and sure don't miss them. DXO kicks their butt in all regards and is so much faster and more intuitive. I've yet to mess with OM Workspace. The only time I tried it when I first loaded it it didn't seem to make any adjustments like as if it was stuck. Weird. I'll have to try it again sometime.

I never could figure out why all this cataloging thing. I simply create a new directory/Folder and i'm good to go. I have 15 years of this and it's so easy to just get right back to where I want to go, no confusion and no waiting. No way I'd give Adobe one red cent.

Adobe is the industry standard in graphic arts. I am not a fan of subscription model but given their revenue growth over the last few years it was a brilliant move. Every production we have and/or collaborate on, is majority Adobe based. Keywording, attributes, location data, metadata accessible across collaborators at different physical sites, dating back years are indispensable to efficient workflow. If someone "can't figure out the cataloging thing" it's because it is not designed for you.

Yea, it's one of those things you don't know you need until you've used it; then, it's invaluable.

I'm using Excire Foto for keywording. Uses AI to do automagic keywording! Love it!

I'm really hooked on putting in a person's name (for example), and having all the images with them in it pop up in a second or two. It would take me a lot of time to go through all my folders to do the same thing.

With Excire Foto, I can do the same to find all the pictures with a mountain, or a dog, or a skier.

Keywording adds a an entirely new dimension to the whole folder-organization thing. With folder organization, an image can only be in one tree. (Well, unless you're using UNIX, and want to go make an `ln` mess of your hierarchy.)

Excire Foto (at least) has hierarchical keywords, so you can search for "Animal," and it will show you both parrots and dogs. Or you can search for "Mammal," and it will show you both dogs and cats, but no parrots. Or you can search for "Dog" and only get dogs.

For me, the hardest part was figuring out keywords. So I let Excire Foto take the lead on this. (Note that you have two complete hierarchies available, theirs, and yours. They only use theirs, and don't mess with yours.)

All the more reason to get out!

They should be using industry standard .xmp sidecar files, for their metadata, no?

Adobe (like Microsoft, and Apple) has a bad habit of ignoring "standards." Official policy regarding standards at Microsoft: "Embrace, embellish, extinguish."

Henry Ford said, "If you find an employee has become indispensable, fire them immediately."

That's one of the reasons I prefer going with the lean, hungry, new competitor, nipping at the heels of the industry leader. They have to follow standards, or they're out of business.

My folders are essentially by date, but the names are obvious as well. I'm never is such a hurry where half a minute to find a folder of desired pix is an issue. I've been doing this since 1997 and it's working fine for me. I never loved Adobe frankly. Back when I was a Nikonian I used their NX which provided superior images to anything they did. Now I feel much the same way with DXO and my OM-1 files. Second would be ON1 as a backup to it. I haven't played with OM Workspace yet as I hear it's supposed to be slow. Guess I'll find out down the road.
