Hi, I've spent an hour or more searching the Nikon reference guide and Thom's Z50ii guide in addition to trawling through the menu's numerous times but haven't been able to find if the ? which appears on the LCD and viewfinder can be disabled or removed. See photo attached. There's actually no reference to it in any of the guides showing available available icons or indicators. Does anybody know the answer? Thanks.

Can I turn off 'help'?

Maybe this could help : Nikon support made a suggestion! Re: Camera, Nikon z50, refuse to shoot

The message and "Help/Warning" sign usually appears when the camera is unable to shoot because of poor lighting and release focus priority.

Another additional trick/workaround may be to set flash mode to off.

I don't have my Z50II handy at the moment. But you're in Program exposure mode, try the A, S, or M. Also, if you set Flash mode to Off, I believe this message goes away, too. Judging by the histogram, the bulk of your image is below middle gray, by the way, which is why it is warning you. It's unclear to me why your screen is so bright given that.

Thanks. Turning flash off gets rid of it but I occasionally use a little fill flash where necessary. I'll just have to live with it the way it is. Cheers.

Thanks. Yes, you're correct - turning off the flash removes the (?) Unfortunately I use a reduced fill flash occasionally so it's nice to have the flash on so it can be quickly popped up and used when necessary.

I don't like these hand holding guides and turn them off where I can. Cheers.

Thanks. The message appears when you press the ? button or the on screen (?) touch icon. I’d like to get rid of the (?) touch icon if possible. The hand holding stuff is maybe fine in AUTO or SCN modes for beginners but not in PASM. Previous cameras with these little ‘helpers’ had options to turn them off as does my current Sony RX100Vii. Cheers

Ok, good. :)

Anyway, if you use a fill flash and turn flash mode on when it's switched on, I think you won't have the message either (It's generally due to a combination of release priority and flash mode on). It's also an old inconvenience Nikon should fix, I think.

In this case, the camera is actually telling you that you're getting fill flash (best case), not subject-lighting flash. Remember, the Nikon automated flash default is Balanced TTL, not Fill TTL. You're getting the warning because the exposure will not be balanced.

Don't have my Z50II with me, but try SETUP > Touch controls > Disable. You can't get rid of individual items, but you can get rid of them all, I believe.
