G2 Slow to write to card

Yea, I could have waited, but I was in Office Max and saw a replacement battery for $39.99 that fit the G2(G3 now), so I grabbed it and when it said is there anything else.... I couldn't help myself and bought the Lexar 256meg card as well(since IMO a 32meg card for the G2/G3 is whoafully inadequate).

I managed to swipe the Lexar 12X card for $80.87 + Tax.. and they
deliver in one day!!!

Yes, you don't get the gratification of having the card right
away.. but one day and save $20.. that's ain't bad.

Also Lexar 12X comes with Life Time Warranty...

The cheaper brand on the Internet, such as Ridita only have 3yrs
warranty...
If you have an Office Max near you, they are selling the 256meg
Lexar 12x card for $99 right now. Compared to the internet prices,
it's not a fantastic price, but for retail, it is a great price. I
am using this card and see about a 1 second lag MAX, in writing a
RAW file on my G2.

To compare, the Lexar is 12x(not all Lexars are 12x so be
carefull), but even the fastest Sandisk, the Ultra version, is only
8x I believe.

This may very well have been the problem. This was the first time I
even looked at a G2 and don't know much about it. I'm used to the
Nikon 950 that shows the shot that was taken until it is done
writing then switches back to whatever the camera is pointed at. We
use the LCD quite a bit and if we have to wait that's certainly not
acceptable to me if it can't be turned off. I'm not sure if it can
from what you are saying. Can you just turn off the review entirely
so it takes the pick and writes to the card and off you go?
If the G2 is like the G3 that I have in my hands, it can show you a display of the picture you just took, but you don't really have to wait for the display. You can hit the shutter button, and the display disappears.

Olga,

Thanks for the info. I'll have to check it again when I go back to mess with it some more. I might still spring for a G3 but no one has them in stock to play around with.

Thanks again

Check Ritzcamera.com or your local Ritz store(if you have one) for the G3. My local Ritz had a couple of them in stock.

Lance,

I have a Nikon 4500. Its display is very short; too short, IMHO, and it is not configurable time-wise. But even its display can be interrupted with the shutter button.

A better way to test it is by turning the LCD off and see how fast you can take the shots from each one of them without being distracted by the LCD.

(BTW we use a San Disk 128MB and 40MB
cards at home).
Sandisk original cards as well as Lexar 4X and 8X are SLOW. Don't blame the camera, blame on the card you're using at home.

I've a Ridata card that writes twice as fast as that of the Sandisk.

Well I wasn't using the camera at home, I was just mentioning that for informational purposes. The card was Lexar 12X card. However I believe it was due to the "reivew" being turned on. I'm going back this weekend to try it again and hopefully try out the G3.
