Thanks, Bruce, for the pointer.

FastStone is really great!

I wish they had included a simple 'set white/gray point' option. The USM is not well implemented, IMO.

Yes, that have been nice Claus - write to them. They don't always reply, but good ideas get in I'm sure. No, the USM looks a bit crude compared to Photoshop, but I find the standard sharpening excellent (having chosen the Lanczos3 type in the settings).

The Healing tool works well, and the Curves are nicely done.

I used to love it, but it takes waaaaay too long to preview a folder full of ORFs. I think it is trying to apply RAW settings to the previews, instead of using the built in JPEG preview. If I have a folder of 500 or more RAWs, I can go and eat dinner and come back and it may still be going through them. Switched to Picasa Viewer; it brings up the JPEG preview in 2-3 seconds, and then renders a RAW version a second or two later.

There are three settings for what it renders for Raws, but none of them are quick. I shoot Raw+JPG, and order the folder by type, so it blasts through the JPG previews, and I can browse those while it renders the Raws. I tried Picasa, but didn't trust the semi-automation, or like the interface. The price is good for both though : ) I've just got LR3, and yet to work out my new workflow, but would miss FastStone.

Gidday Bruce

Thanks for the heads up, mate.

I last checked about a week ago, and probably wouldn't have bothered looking for another couple of months. Thanks again.

I have the FastStone update page stored here:
http://www.watchthatpage.com/

It sends you a notification whenever a page gets updated. It's handy for various pages you want to track, but some get 'updated' with no real change.
