Do I really NEED another memory card?

hi theresa,

can you share to me your experience with the Ultra II? i currently have a 1gb extreme III and i am looking for my second card. i saw a an Ultra II 2gb at our local Costco here for CAD$105... seems to be good price as comparaed to like Best Buy and Future Shop. i'm thinking of getting it or should I stay with extreme III cards?

thanks.

Jeff

Jeff,

I have the 1g ultra II card and love it. Write speeds to my E-500 are fast, and I personally am happy with that. That being said I wonder how much faster the transfer of the files to my pc via a usb2 card reader would be with an extreme III card. I don't shoot in extreme weather conditions and can't justify the price difference between the two.

Everything is different, but the same... things are more moderner than before... bigger, and yet smaller... it's computers... San Dimas High School football rules.

I'm not Theresa, but Ultra II is my staple card. It's speed is reputed to be approximately 60x, which is plenty fast.

I shoot with Nikon D70, and that Ultra II card is still a bottleneck on some occasions, but it's rare. I also have a Lexar 80x card which is noticeably faster in the camera, so I can imagine Extreme III is even faster, if the camera can pump data this quick. I only shoot RAW by the way, so those files are quite large.

Having said that, I think Ultra II is the most cost-effective high-speed card out there. I noticed that my Lexar card cannot be read when my card reader is hooked up to a USB port, as opposed to the computer itself. I never experienced this with the Sandisk Ultra II.

We went on a month+ long honeymoon, and I was very nervous about having enough space. I didn't read through all of the postings (too many), but here's what we did.

Purchased a USB2 on-the-go external hard drive. It has an internal, rechargable battery. So once you've got the hard drive and the enclosure, you're good to go. I just downloaded them every night, no lap top needed.

I probably have some terminology wrong in there, but it's the basic idea. Good luck!

hi guys,

i just purchased a Sandisk Extreme III 2 gb CF at ebay having the same price as Ultra II 2gb CF in store. i think i got a good deal.

thanks.

If speeds matters, the Extreme III writes twice as fast incamera. I love the speed of the Extreme III when shooting sportsevent. The Camera is ready faster, after 4 shots, its about 5 seconds difference..
