i'm been shooting nikon dslr since the d70 days and have always cleaned my own sensors without too many issues.

i'm cleaning my d850 for the first time with full frame swabs and eclipse solution.

For the life of me i can't get the streaks i'm creating to go away. I've read 1000x in forums just use less solution... That doesn't seem to work either. i've used 2 drops with numerous tries even doing a drag to the right and pulling the swab and then using a new swab and doing a drag in the opposite direction. i've tried using 4 drops etc with no luck. i'm baffled?? i'm thinking the swabs themselves might be this issue? i'm using the sanhooii 24 swabs. the reviews were all good so i figured they would be fine. i'm about ready to box it up and send it in for cleaning which i'd rather not do.

If you suspect the issue is with the swabs, I recommend you try a plastic cleaning spatula with Pek Pads. I have used that system for over 10 years with no issues. One drop of Eclipse should be enough. If you cannot find a suitable cleaning spatula, it should be easy to make one out of some scrap plastic such as a jar lid.

I make my own swabs using half a Pec Pad cut across the diagonal. I saved the plastic part from some swab sticks bought long ago but I have also used a cut down credit-card. That seems to have the right amount of flexibility. Of course, the edge of the plastic must be cleanly cut across and have no sharp protruberances.

Somewhere I've read that just the tiniest hint of distilled water on the swab before applying Eclipse helps.

Many, many successful cleanings since 2004.
