Thank you, all that participated, the numbers in the forum are down but still a few of us enjoy the simple challenge. A few discombobulated thoughts and the winner:

Love the lighting in Jack in the pulpit presented by dartymix as an exhibit. Would have won I think!

KathyPGHPA's Momma and Baby Robin, also an exhibit, i think we all have seen similar scenes with the robin being so prolific.

NicholasD Last Dance, good job creating a memory to his last swim meet.

The winner is: Live oaks on Cumberland Island by dartymix1. the depth and color provide a vision I would love to walk into.

Do you walk into an art exhibit or walk up to an artist at his easel and say "let me see a brush, I'll fix it for you"?
That is ludicrous.

First, thanks for selecting one of my images for a mention - much appreciated.

From my perspective, I'd say continue with the challenge. I'm relatively new to posting images to these challenges but have been a long time user of DX cameras and user of this forum.

There are folks who will never submit images or enter a challenge. So, I think the challenge is to get the infrequent or casual submitter to participate more often. Not sure how that happens other than to keep the challenges fun and casual. If it gets too serious, only the serious will enter.

There are obviously fewer regular readers of this forum given the migration to mirrorless. Since these challenges are open to any Nikon camera, does it make sense to periodically post to the other Nikon forums inviting those folks to participate?

I regularly participate in the Sony cyber shot challenges. Same problem there - numbers are generally down compared to a couple years ago. Fundamentally, people are "leaving" dpr faster than they are arriving. Short of reversing that trend, participation among those still here has to increase.

One person's opinion,
Nick

Agreed. I entered many challenges in the past, but have not done so lately. Maybe it's time. They are fun to participate in, whether winning or not. I won once and recieved several H.M.'s

Yeah, I like the challenge threads, seeing people's perspective on a theme. When I host i try to have a broad theme to encourage participation. The forum traffic has declined, the DSLR with mirror tech is becoming passe. However, the equipment is going to be in people's kit (including mine) for a long time. (A Z8 is in my sights, but after chasing the tech from D70 to D7000 to D7200, my experience tells me it needs to evolve before I make the plunge.)

I did try in the past to 'advertise' the challenge I was hosting in other Nikon forums, I may have been able to encourage a couple of entries. But it may not hurt to post to other forums.

I asked the question to open discussion to any ideas that may freshen the #369 old thread challenge.

Participation is the key. I follow several forum and don't post or comment much of the time. I find the simple challenge in this forum a good place to post some of my pics.

Thanks, Don for the pick and HM. My office’s managing. Partner picked the tree pic as art for our office and it is a 20 x 30 I think. I can run the challenge but have to shorten the time for response- going to Kenya on a photo safari in early August. If someone else wants to run it please let me know ASAP.

I enjoy the challenges but agree that participation has been waning. I will try to pick a broad topic. I shot Nikon DX for many years, but have switched to Nikon mirrorless now which appears to be a really big group with a lot of participation

I'll try to be more active in these challenges in this forum if the theme resonates with me. Had a bad experience while hosting recently in the Sony forum and took a break from participating in any challenges.
