* * * * * * Challenge #1 : GET READY * * * * * * *

Great initiative Pretzel !!!

I have followed similar challenges at the D40/50/60/70/80 forum with envy, and often asked myself why we don't have such a challenge at our forum - and now we have a challenge thanks to you.

That drops me out. In this case it is no challenge photographically,
just dig trough your existing images and pick a shot that fits the
subject. Boring.

A true challenge is to shoot and make a photo based a certain theme.
First, I admire your work and, for my own selfish reasons, would love your participation. Let me explain my thoughts on the matter...

I think we are a very creative bunch, in here especially. But to start, I would like to be as inclusive as possible. Although it's nice to get picked as a winner or runner up, I'd like to see more a showcase of talent. In any case, it will be up to the host to pick a subject and be the judge for the week. If you have a very large portfolio, perhaps you can dig into it and find something close to the topic. But the odds are that someone actively shooting the theme will be more spot on and therefore more likely to be favorably judged.

And we can change the rules at any time. Remember, this is just for fun. It may evolve into a full voting challenge at some point. Let's just see how it goes first, shall we?

Wonderful idea, I'm sorry for the rest of the fine photographers who will have to endure my pictures!

I think the host should be also responsible for maintaining the thread alive, so people who visit this forum sporadically and are willing to participate can find the challenge du jour.

..looking forward to the see what the first Theme is.
If I take a worthy picture then for sure I will enter it.

As a suggestion, as this is a forum, would it be good idea (as an option) that entries have a straight a from camera picture and the same if one uses PP to show the final entry picture.

This will further give an insight of one's talent and for people like me to learn more and appreciate even more the pictures on display.

I believe they should be fresh photos and not the ones from your stock. People should go out and take a photo in a time frame. Lets say in a week. A week long time should be enough for every one.

Let's go. I tried on the D80 group when I had one but never made the top 10. It made me try harder each challenge. So, let's get started.

...I would also like to see photos taken from the time the Challenge/Theme has been set. It would be more fun and be a challenge.

Although perhaps if one has a appropriate pictures taken from before, that fits the theme, maybe there could be a category "Best from stock",...it is always nice to see great pics.

To me, a challenge is to put a task before someone and see how well they can achieve it.

Pretzel, it sounds more like you're proposing a "showcase", as you yourself put it.

So which is it going to be, a challenge or a showcase?

It appears there's plenty of interest, lets start this thing already.

I also think Dx00 challenge would be a great idea. The above idea about posting a seperate stock photo category with the same theme is a good idea and might clear up the issue of shooting within a time frame.

Looking forward to it

Both the quality and quantity of shots will most likely increase if old photos are allowed.

People who don't have time to do go out photographing that week might have some old photos available.

It makes it harder to compete if you chose to take all the pictures within the timeframe, but it also makes it a lot more interesting to browse through the other entries.
Just my humble opinion ofcourse.

OK, lets make the time a week or two and the first theme 'autumn colours', or perhaps even 'snow and ice'. Not a problem for us down under!

Well, that requires someone to send me some Autumn leaves and I will take some pics of the ice building up in my freezer as we dont have weather seasons like that over here... :))

I can't wait - my photo class just wrapped up - so great timing!!

I do think the entries should be limited to the week the contest runs though - I will kick myself of course when I have the perfect pic in my stock!!! (-:

Put me down as one of the people who doesn't want there to be a time constraint on when the photo is taken. There are other sites that accomplish that strict form of challenge (e.g., DPC); I would be much less interested in participating in challenges here if they absolutely required me to post only new photos. Just my 2 pence.

I'm in for some fun...

I think the EXIF information should be required in the attached files as well. That way we could verify its origin.

I do like the idea of limiting the time frame, but perhaps give it a month window prior to the contest plus the week or so for those who wish to go out and shoot their own fresh work to submit.
