It uses Oly Stylus 1 Lens, same size sensor, not sure if same sensor, as it is so fast in burst shooting. uses CDAF, not Hybrid PDCD like rx100m5 and new Nikon DL's

Casio EX-100F notes from Casio manual, 1-14-17.

http://support.casio.com/en/manual/manualfile.php?cid=001018003

Info for Stills, I don’t shoot videos. (my understandings, errors might be included below)

1. Language: verify your language is an option.

2. 49 MB internal memory

3. Self Open/Close Lens cap auto like Oly

4. Remove cap: threads, Oly conversion tubes/lenses & filters fit

5. Jpeg Compression: Default Image Quality is Normal. Fine is an option. No SF superfine. Extra Zooms, Burst shooting, other modes change to Normal compression even if using Fine for stills.

Always the same # of pixels, but different amounts of data retained for later PP. Casio 12mp image size chart: RAW is 127% larger file/more data than Jpeg Fine; Jpeg Fine is 78% larger file/more data than Jpeg Normal.

6. Front Button: Shutter or Re-assign (where Oly lever is, lose front lever MF/AF toggle)

7. Flip out stand behind tilt lcd for table top use

8. LCD up 180 degrees, down 55 degrees (oly up abut 80, down about 55

9. LCD, 3-1/2” not touch screen, oly is. Brightness range: auto, +2,+1,0,-1. (dark enough to shoot inconspiculously?)

10. LCD display: grid, level, histogram, movie image area

11. ND filter: on, off, no Auto

12. AF assist lamp: on, off, no auto

13. Motion Shutter, wave hand, for starting self timer selfies from afar

e. Digital, nasty like any digital zoom. Why do they include it?

32. Anti-Shake (IS). 5 axis. Standard, Strong (uses faster shutter, may use high ISO), OFF (off for tripod use). Note: says if IS set to standard, then exposure settings are not shown on lcd???

33. Intelligent Bracketing, a few types, needs clarification.

34. Burst, High Speed CS (continuous shutter). Must be in P mode, then pick CS, then pick speed:

Casio EX-100F notes from Casio manual, 1-14-17.

Info for Stills, I don’t shoot videos. (my understandings, errors might be included below)

1. Language: verify your language is an option.

2. 49 MB internal memory

3. Self Open/Close Lens cap auto like Oly

4. Remove cap: threads, Oly conversion tubes/lenses & filters fit Words well. Note that there is no setting to tell the camera you're using a teleconverter, but it works well.

6. Front Button: Shutter or Re-assign (where Oly lever is, lose front lever MF/AF toggle) I have it set for 2 sec. delay. Makes it really easy to get the delay without changing any setting(s).

7. Flip out stand behind tilt lcd for table top use

8. LCD up 180 degrees, down 55 degrees (oly up abut 80, down about 55

9. LCD, 3-1/2” not touch screen, oly is. Brightness range: auto, +2,+1,0,-1. (dark enough to shoot inconspiculously?) I love the 3-1/2" display. I'm now spoiled by the size of it. All others now seem too small to me!

10. LCD display: grid, level, histogram, movie image area

11. ND filter: on, off, no Auto

12. AF assist lamp: on, off, no auto

13. Motion Shutter, wave hand, for starting self timer selfies from afar

14. Self Timer is a recording mode, thus cannot be combined with other modes like bracketing

15. Language: confirm version has yours

16. No EVF

17. No Hot shoe, thus no external EVF or Flash or Mic

18. No AEL

19. P mode = normal single shot program auto

20. Premium Auto Pro = auto, possibly using multi-shot blended into 1 shot, not for motion

21. Slow Shutter Speed, camera will use both NR and high ISO

22. BS Best Shot, is like Scenes in other cameras, uses icons and presets

23. Custom: up to 12 sets of custom settings

24. Can use Step Zoom, and, can use Last Zoom, and Last Focal Length when turned on, if set up

25. WB, auto, many pre-sets, set by white paper, however, no specific Kelvin scale to choose from.

26. Macro, Auto Macro, Super Macro (?), Magnifying Glass (?). I had to try the "Magnifying Glass to see what it does. Basically, it just allows you to use macro to display something on the LCD so that you can see it better. It's not for taking pictures!

27. Flash, and flash compensation. Flash is auto pop-up, (cannot leave flash on in settings and leave flash down; use it by releasing flash like Oly, without going into the menu).

28. Metering, always centered: large, medium, spot (spot cannot follow focus spot like Oly does).

29. Focus: CDAF contrast detect. AF-S (single pre-focus at what it camera is aimed at, wait for half press?); AF-C, continuous AF until half press (continuous pre-focus?); MF; Face; Tracking; All-In-Focus (multi-shots, like focus stacking). AF-less (no focus, it just shoots instantly at half press, no lag, ?)

30. Focus Area: large, multi, medium, spot. Multi is 9 block grid, can toggle to use any 3 block area, or toggle 1 block (any of the nine), like spot, back to 9 blocks

31. Zoom Options (see separate zoom chart):

a. Optical

b. HD, sensor crop, no upscaling, available at 8mp and 3mp image sizes

c. Single SR (super resolution), single shot, (sensor crop and in-camera upscaling)

d. Multi SR, like SR but a blend of several shots, not for motion. Automatically uses Anti-Shake (IS) ‘Standard’. Must be in Best Shot to use these.

It gives the option to do a 3 x 3 matrix, varying each of two parameters. Example: Vary WB and Contrast, each in three levels, to provide a 3 x 3 matrix of all combinations, allowing you to pick which you like best on the LCD if you want. It does save all though for later perusal. First time I've ever seen anything like this. There are many combinations available, including focus, shutter speed, aperture etc.

34. Burst, High Speed CS (continuous shutter). Must be in P mode, then pick CS, then pick speed:

Individual Focus each shot: 3,5,10,15,30 fps, (using 12mp image size, Jpeg Normal Compression) Guess I didn't read the manual well enough. I had thought it focused before of the 60 fps, although that would be incredible. My Nikon 1 V3 does exactly the same as this Casio. 30 fps with individual focus, or 60 fps with only first shot.

Focus first shot then repeat: 60fps (using 8mp image size, Jpeg Normal Compression, 16:9 AR)

Set # of shots: 5,10,20,30. Uses AF Spot Focus Area.

35. Pre-Record CS shots. Half Press, starts pre-recording shots into the buffer. Full Press the CS process starts, pre-shots are recorded from the buffer to card, and subsequent CS shots are into buffer, onto card normally. IF release half press, the pre-shots are discarded from the buffer.

36. Stills while shooting movie: single, or CS up to 7 shots at 10fps speed

37. Best Shot, ‘scenes’ to get pre-sets automatically, and special modes

a. Triple Shot, pre-records, takes 3 shots, IQ Normal With half press, it starts buffering shots. Upon full shutter press, it then stores one before the full press, one at full press, and one after. At least that's how I understand it.

b. Blurred Background. In-camera analysis, in-camera processing, blurs background

c. All-In-Focus, multi shots, like focus stacking, blended in-camera

d. HDR Art, High Dynamic Range. Automatic bracketed exposure burst, processed into single HDR, or, Double, both HDR and Single shot as per the settings.

e. HS AS, High Speed, Anti Shake, combines a burst, uses Auto ISO

f. HS Night Shot, burst, combined

g. HS Best Selection (portraits). Takes a burst, picks and keeps one shot (no blending), based on blur, smile, blink analysis.

h. Slide Pano. Focus and metering set at beginning of the sweep. Horizontal up to 360 degrees (11,520 x 1080 pixels); Vertical up to 180 degrees (1920 x 7296 pixels). Select 60,120,180,240,300,360 degrees. Note: can set for vertical sweep, turn camera vertically, and sweep sideways, get 1920 h x 7296 wide.

i. Wide Shot (3 shot sweep combined to wide shot. Options: 17mm or 21mm (not exact). Camera in Vertical Position, sweep sideways. 38. Assignments of Rings, buttons, etc. are shown at the edge of the lcd, reminding you.

39. ISO, auto, 80,100,200,400,800,1600,3200,6400,12800. No Auto ISO in M. Can set ISO high limit, cannot set ISO low limit. Native ISO?????

40. Image Sizes: 12mp, 8mp, 3mp. Full sensor 4:3, or aspect ratios 3:2; 16:9

41. Lighting (OIB Optimizes Image Brightness) in-camera, like DRO (dynamic range optimization) This is used only after you take the photo (during photo review on the LCD)

42. Exposure Compensation, no separate dial or rocker, use front ring, or use menu.

43. Adjustments: sharpness, saturation, contrast, flash strength. Either +/-3 or +/-2.

44. Settings (many) can be retained as your defaults at power on, including last zoom position.

45. HDMI out may include PAL 576p option (verify your model)

46. Alternate Image Creation(s) in camera: later, in Play Mode: in addition to the normal image captured, being viewed, make an alternate OIB; Brightness; WB; Crop; Re-size;
The control system is very unique, at least to me. There's a ring around the lens, with nice detents. On the back of the camera is a button labeled "Ring". Pressing the button give you the option of several functions to control by turning the ring, such as zoom, focus, aperture, etc. The choices vary with the Mode chosen on the Mode dial. On the rear of the camera where would be a normal 4 way controller, is a small dial, with very nice (quality feel) detents. In the center is a Select button. Press select, and the LCD shows a selection of something like 4 to 12 parameters (depends on what Mode you're in). Spinning the rear dial moves from one to the next. With your finger still on the ring, press the right side (3 o'clock) to display the choices, spin the dial to select on, press left side of ring (9 o'clock) to return to the list of parameters still being displayed and pick another one if you wish. Very slick way to make it very convenient to change settings without having lots of individual buttons.

Very complete summary of features. Thanks Elliott! It's really a slick camera. I added my comments in bold italics. I wasn't sure how to change the color of them. Maybe it will automatically do that when I press "Post"? I'll see!

Hi Elliott

Great job, these notes, need some corrections, but have to go to sleep now, sorry, and tomorrow I'll be busy, but I'll try to answer as soon as possible.

Thanks, it has a very unique set of features.

Hi, as promised...

It's useful to take a look at the previous model English page (EX-100):

http://www.casio-intl.com/asia/en/dc/products/ex_100/

Both models share most of the feaatures, for the EX-100F, you have to use the translator from Japanese.

With the Memory funtion, you can make non-default options, the default ones when you turn on the camera.

I have to say that I don't have the EX-100 or EX-100F, but I have and have used other models that share most of the features.

I'll edit the quote:
11. ND filter: on, off, no Auto

12. AF assist lamp: on, off, no auto
Well, "on" behaves like "Auto", actually.
13. Motion Shutter, wave hand, for starting self timer selfies from afar

14. Self Timer is a recording mode, thus cannot be combined with other modes like bracketing
But there is a very thorough set of braketing options, not seen in other brands.
20. Premium Auto Pro = auto, possibly using multi-shot blended into 1 shot, not for motion
It depends of the scene auto detected, the use of multi-shot blended into 1 shot or one unique shot ("action" is one of the possible scenes detected). In fact, you can turn off the High Speed multi-shot option for Prmium Auto Pro if you want.
23. Custom: up to 12 sets of custom settings
It's a pity it's only 12, while old models have until 999 custom Best shots.
30. Focus Area: large, multi, medium, spot. Multi is 9 block grid, can toggle to use any 3 block area, or toggle 1 block (any of the nine), like spot, back to 9 blocks
it's weird... I thought the AF area in multi was 25 in the latest models...

Must be in Best Shot to use these.

e. Digital, nasty like any digital zoom. Why do they include it?
Well, you can tun it off and still have acces to HD Zoom that extends the Optical zoom for lower resolutions.
33. Intelligent Bracketing, a few types, needs clarification.
Already answered by other user, in the EX-100 web page you can find more info
34. Burst, High Speed CS (continuous shutter). Must be in P mode, then pick CS, then pick speed:

Individual Focus each shot: 3,5,10,15,30 fps, (using 12mp image size, Jpeg Normal Compression)

Focus first shot then repeat: 60fps (using 8mp image size, Jpeg Normal Compression, 16:9 AR)

Set # of shots: 5,10,20,30. Uses AF Spot Focus Area.
High Speed CS (continuous shutter) works too in Aperture, Shutter and Manual modes (see last Notes in the correspondent section of the manual).

30 fps with AF (Individual Focus each shot)? No... speed between 3 to 6 fps, automatically adjusted in accordance with shooting conditions.

CS: up to 7 shots every time you press the shutter, but up to 28 images in total, in subsequent shutter pressings.
37. Best Shot, ‘scenes’ to get pre-sets automatically, and special modes

a. Triple Shot, pre-records, takes 3 shots, IQ Normal

Note, not only wider, much more height, 1,920 pixels high: 78% more than normal 1,080 h. It might be possible to do this sweeping vertically, getting a much wider 1,920 p and taller vertical shot.
Not really 3 shoots, but an indetermined number of shoots blended

Yes, many unique bracketing modes
So then it is an auto scene detector mode, single shot.
I may be saying it wrong, there are more blocks (I call that large), but you get to move a grid of 9 blocks wherever you want within the full area, and it seems you can toggle to spot, any block, as well. Point is, it has some interesting methods to get focus where you want it.
31. Zoom Options (see separate zoom chart):

a. Optical

b. HD, sensor crop, no upscaling, available at 8mp and 3mp image sizes

c. Single SR (super resolution), single shot, (sensor crop and in-camera upscaling)

e. Digital, nasty like any digital zoom. Why do they include it?
Well, you can tun it off and still have acces to HD Zoom that extends the Optical zoom for lower resolutions.
I just meant, why do any manufacturers put the nasty 'digital' versions on, it gives all the other modern crop/upscale methods a bad name. I am a big fan of Sony's CIZ, Oly's 2X, and I would use asio's HD Zoom. What I don't like is that Casio defaults to Jpeg Normal compression automatically when you use HD Zoom, both Sony and Oly keep using Fine or SuperFine compression.

This is confusing, glad you caught this, I re-read the manual and found what you said:

36c1271f24884d12a4a19624df10785e.jpg

So, AF-CS mode is separate from the other higher speed modes. 3-6 fps with individual AF, up to a max of 30 shots per sequence. Individual exposure is not mentioned???

there are 3 CS modes

1. 'AF-CS'. 3-6 fps, up to 30 shots max. 12mp 4:3 Jpeg Normal, Individual Focus. (camera adjusts speed 3 to 6 itself while shooting)

2. 'High Speed CS'. Focus set at first shot, held for all subsequent shots. you pick the speed, (3,5,10,15,30) 12mp, 4:3, Jpeg Normal

3. '60 fps High Speed CS'. Like #2 except, to get this speed, the images are 8mp, 16:9, Jpeg Normal.

and an option to 'Pre-Record' at half press while using a CS mode.

CS: up to 7 shots every time you press the shutter, but up to 28 images in total, in subsequent shutter pressings.
37. Best Shot, ‘scenes’ to get pre-sets automatically, and special modes

a. Triple Shot, pre-records, takes 3 shots, IQ Normal

Note, not only wider, much more height, 1,920 pixels high: 78% more than normal 1,080 h. It might be possible to do this sweeping vertically, getting a much wider 1,920 p and taller vertical shot.
Not really 3 shoots, but an indetermined number of shoots blended
Have you used this feature? IQ Opinion?

I hope I didn't miss something important... and that I have it all right :-P
Thanks for adding and clarifying things, especially the AF-CS 3-6fps.

Hi Elliott

So then it is an auto scene detector mode, single shot.
Well, let's see if I can explain it in simple words.

"Premium Auto" it's a mode that have the Standard (non High Speed) Casio Exilim cameras it's an auto scene detector mode, single shot.

"Premium Auto Pro " it's the mode that have High Speed Casio Exilim cameras, the difference with the previous it's that adds the possibility, depending on the kind of subject/scene detected, of using High Speed multishot takes. This last possibility can be disabled, acting like an auto scene detector mode, single shot, like a "no Pro" "Premium Auto". If enabled, the result can be single o multi shot, depending of the scene detection.
30. Focus Area: large, multi, medium, spot. Multi is 9 block grid, can toggle to use any 3 block area, or toggle 1 block (any of the nine), like spot, back to 9 blocks
it's weird... I thought the AF area in multi was 25 in the latest models...
I may be saying it wrong, there are more blocks (I call that large), but you get to move a grid of 9 blocks wherever you want within the full area, and it seems you can toggle to spot, any block, as well. Point is, it has some interesting methods to get focus where you want it.
You are not wrong, this is what manual says, in any case, maybe is 25 instead of 9, and then it's a manual error.

Must be in Best Shot to use these.

With HD zoom I follow the Casio nomenclature, meaning a crop from a larger image, the quality image is kept if changed from the default setting. It defaults to Normal compression inn the case of SR or Multi SR-Zoom, that can be combined with HD zoom doubling the already extended HD Zoom...

Yes, confusing, sorry, but once you use it it's easy to understand...
34. Burst, High Speed CS (continuous shutter). Must be in P mode, then pick CS, then pick speed:

High Speed CS (continuous shutter) works too in Aperture, Shutter and Manual modes (see last Notes in the correspondent section of the manual).

30 fps with AF (Individual Focus each shot)? No... speed between 3 to 6 fps, automatically adjusted in accordance with shooting conditions.

Yes, about Individual exposure not mentioned, but I guess that it has it, the speed problem here is the refocusing, I don't think Individual exposure would be a problem.
there are 3 CS modes

I've found a mistake in the manual, on '60 fps High Speed CS', first say the maximum number of shots is 30 and later says it's 60... seems logical it was 60, given the faster rate and smaller resolution...
37. Best Shot, ‘scenes’ to get pre-sets automatically, and special modes

a. Triple Shot, pre-records, takes 3 shots, IQ Normal

i. Wide Shot (3 shot sweep combined to wide shot. Options: 17mm or 21mm (not exact). Camera in Vertical Position, sweep sideways.
IQ Opinion?
I have used it in a EX-ZR400 a model at least 2 years older.

It's a bit tricky at first, to get it right. As it's really a variant of the usual slide pano, it has the similar quality and the usual glitches when blending mutiple shots.

Better this than nothing of course... but the Ex-100F could be complemented with the Casio EX-ZR5000 , that has a wide angle of 19 mm... and having Wide Shot too, you can go ap to 11 mm, I think...
I hope I didn't miss something important... and that I have it all right :-P

You're welcome

another thanks for additional clarity.

I like a lot of the interesting features, but I am hesitant due to: lack of EVf, lack of SuperFine Jpeg compression, and the automatic step down from Fine to Normal Jpeg Compression when using the extra zooms or continuous shooting.

I will keep my eye out for more samples and discussion of this very interesting camera.

I just tried, and am returning the Panasonic ZS100 which has the 1" sensor, very compact body, reach 25-250, no competition, some unique features, especially 4K stills (all 8mp).

The lens was sharp, but too dark for my needs, low light, and motion, sometimes combined, and fully zoomed motion like soccer.

So, I am considering ordering the Casio EX100F, and evaluating it. Again, my concerns are the lack of Jpeg Sf compression, and auto default to Jpeg Normal when using many of it's unique features.

I want to get one already in the USA, returns accepted, if anyone finds one, let me know asap please.

IF I don't care for the super fast continuous, I am wondering if I could get the prior EX100 model, save some money.

Anyone know what else I may not get that the newer F version has?

Same Processor?

EX100 has Exilim Engine HS, ver.3 Advance.

Anyone know if the F version has more advanced, or same processor?
