I strongly agree with both these statements. Even though at first glance they could seem contradictory.In many cases clipping is good as it gives the real feel for the image, and gives the image direct impact on the viewer.
I cant stand blown skies, so I almost always expose for skies and fix the subject later. Or, if it's a portrait, position the subject to minimize blown skies.
