Im looking for hear from any one who has switched from an A6000 / A6300 to a Fuji X-T2 or X-T1?

I switched from DSLR to a Sony A7RII last year. A short while ago I added an A6300 to my kit for a more portable solution and also one that I didn't feel so nervous about carrying around.

I like the A7RII , and the A6300 is great, but I can't shake this feeling that they don't make me terribly happy to shoot with. Very sterile feeling electronic machines. crappy feeling plastic buttons and kind of lifeless to work with. I enjoy editing the photos I get from them much more than the actual act of shooting photos with them. Sony's technology is incredible, but their user experience is lacking. Cameras designed by engineers rather than photographers.

I've owned an X100T in the past and I really love the Fuji colors and the manual feel. Now with the X-T2 out, im very tempted to sell the A6300 and buy an X-T2 .. Im jealous of the "photographic joy" i constantly hear people talk about with the Fuji cameras.

I dont think anything can replace the A7RII yet, it's a monster, but the A6300 im willing to pass up.

So im looking to hear from anyone that might of switched from An A6000 or A6300 to the Fuji system and what your thoughts are? Happy you did? did you photos change?

Anyone? .... Bueller?

I plan to switch. Have used Sony for some years, Nex-series, RX100 series, A7, RX1. Currently A6300 and some lenses.

Most "fun" I had with RX1 and A7, FF but compact. Since A7II and brothers have become bigger and heavier, I switched back to APS-C and bought the A6300.

Well, fully equipped, very compact, actually perfect on paper, but very technical feeling and no joy. Now, since XT-2 with usable AF speed is there, its time to switch back to Fuji, which I used a lot before mirrorless times. Still having a compact QX1 at work and its still "magic", so the XT-2 will be the right working tool and I plan to sell all my Sony stuff.

Yes, i agree. The A6300 is a pretty impressive camera, but its a little lifeless. Im also shooting with the Zeiss 24mm, which is one of the best primes available for these Sonys, so I figure if im not enjoying it with that, then I dont think its going to get better.

I dont plan on selling my A7RII. That solves a different issue for me, and the images are excellent, especially for landscapes, but walking around the street and shooting day to day, I don't carry that with me, I carry the smaller, cheaper A6300.

I might be imagining it, but the images from my X100T always seemed super sharp, sharper than my A6300, even though its got 8MP less resolution. I can't help but think the X-T2 would be a step up again.

I miss the Fuji colors. I prefer that they are not totally life like, thats just boring. The Sony colors are a little too exact sometimes, but that I mean, there's nothing interesting about them, it just looks like real life. Probably great for a photo journalist, but not really my cup of tea.

Yup... switched from A6300 and A7ii / A7rii about 4 months ago.

ONLY thing I miss is the fantastic focus point tracking and Eye tracking.

I am waiting for Flash options for X-T2 to shake out before I upgrade to one... had one pre=ordered and canceled it.

How do you find the photos you're shooting now? Do you prefer them?

Im 100% sure I would prefer the shooting experience, I guess im wondering if people preferred the Fuji images over the Sony after having made the switch.

i have a6300 and fuji xt2 - haven't sold sony yet however haven't picked it up since fuji arrived, fun fun!! im testing out the "action capabilities"-- however it's not exactly small - if that is something that is very important to you

I prefer the fuji color IMHO and immensely better skin tones with the Fuji.

I sold my A7R2 and went with the Fuji X-T2. It feels like a real camera. Yes the Sony has great tech but it was like shooting with a computer. I enjoy using the camera and shooting as much as the end results. I don't think I would want to have 2 systems though. That could get confusing and you can't interchange lenses etc. The Fuji is not much smaller then the A7R2 but the lenses esp zoom are much smaller and lighter. I only used primes with the Sony as the Zooms were too big for my tastes.

Eh, yes, thats a problem too. The beauty of the A7RII and the A6300 is that I can and do share lenses, batteries and flashes.

I've got a pretty heavy investment in the FF Sony glass though.. Not much investment in the APS-C , hence my consideration for the X-T2.

I have become fond of the lock on AF, would be keen to know if the Fuji can do a similar thing

Hi,

I fully understand your point. I also have a Sony A6000 because it is so compact but never shoot it. Most likely I will sell it and my Sony A7R too since I now exclusively shoot Fuji.

Here I compared the Sony A to Fuji X. But as you can see from the pictures - there is no size advantage in the body.

Fuji biggest advantages over Sony are:

1. lenses

2. WB

3. skin tones

I'm in the same boat - I have an A6000 and I'm very happy with the face tracking and af-c capabilities, I just hate shooting with the thing. If the Fujis could produce a similar performance to the A6000 (at least in this regard) I'd be interested in moving over, too.

A6000 had face tracking? Do you mean face recognition? I sold off my A6000 and switched over to X-T2 - take it from me, the X-T2 is superior in every way over the A6000 in terms of performance - I haven't tried the AF-C or tracking capabilities on the A6300, but Sony is crippled by their mediocre, native APSC lenses. I had the 16-70 f4 Zony lens, it was overpriced and crap - it resulted in me only ever using my A6000 in bright sunshine, for any night events or even indoors, I simply never took it out, because I knew my iphone would produce comparable images!

The X-T2 not only has better AF-C and tracking, it has better lowlight performance (probably because of better lenses), it has better images, better colours, proper weather resistance (notice Sony says all their products are "moisture resistant", whatever that means!) and for SOOC shooters like me, the ability to play around with the different film simulations in-camera are awesome!

I don't care much about the handling or menu layout, because they are things you can and will get used to - but most will say that Fuji "feels" better - whatever...

But in all other aspects (including price!) - Fuji beats the Sony.

Thanks, I appreciate your input on this. Must've been face detect + afc. Worked well for me but I haven't had anything to compare it to, to be honest.

Now I just need to sell my gear..

not yet, but might, renting one in two days. looking for a more organic look to my pictures, better ooc skin, faster low light af and better iso performance. not sure how the xt2 will compare to my a6300 though. curious.

I hate to say it but I might just have to buy one and see for my self. Its getting a bit stupid now though, this would be my 4th camera.

I've bought and sold multiple cameras in the past year including other Sony's and Olympus's searching for the perfect fit. They all take great photos, but I don't seem to fall in love with the camera. When I got my Canon 5DMKII back in 2009, I was enthralled with that camera for several years before I eventually upgraded. I want that feeling about my camera again.

I am in exactly the same boat. Have used Canon for years but being stupid sold my 5d3 and f2.8 zooms. Used Sony mirrorless since now, and a Nikon d750. Never fell in love with the d750 like I did with the 5d3 and still like the Canon pictures I took more than what either my Sony or Nikon produces. Especially for people. Even my 7d looks 'better' to me.

Being tickled by Fuji because of all the glowing reviews. Really anxious to try it out, hoping to finally get back to one camera I love instead of buying more and more systems to look for the 'ultimate' camera. Got too much gear now.

Yup. Although it has been nice trying pretty much every camera system out there. Previously I only knew what Canon was like.

Matching the A7RII with 16-35 for landscape work is going to be a tough task though. Its pretty incredible for that particular type of shooting.

I was considering forking out for the Sony Zeiss 16-70 for the A6300, its pretty expensive though (around $1,000) and the reviews aren't great. The X-T2 kit lens though looks like it's quite a descent lens, and its even f/2.8 at the wide end.. Its a pretty good deal only costing a few hundred more with the body, so im pretty keen on that. Would probably get the 23 f/2 at the same time.

I wanted a small camera when I was shooting with my 5D Mk III.. I thought I was going to stay with Canon forever.. I wanted a small travel camera and I wanted FF, so I got the Sony A7R... Did not like it... it was okay and the images were good resolution wise.. but there were no good lenses at the time.. and when I used good lenses, it became as big as my 5DMkIII. So I got a Fuji X100, then the X-T1.. that changed everything.. all my canon gear just stayed in my safe or loaned out to friends. Once I got the X-Pro2.. I decided that it was time to sell my Canon gear.. Haven't regretted it one day.. I love my X-T2 (X-T1, Pro-2 and IR converted X-E1).
