I have no idea what, but it's not the 20D and hopefully it was just
not to get our attention.... we'll see.

Please not a new mount!

I can't afford to replace all of my EF glass. How about a camera with film and digital back?

I know a secret - the news is that

DavidP has been hired as Chief Measurebator.

Film? Whats that?!

I would be really surprised at major film announcements.

one last one

Actually, someone claimed before there would be one last 1 series film camera. That actually makes more sense then anything now that I think of it.

Giggle.

One in the know told me I'd want to use the mkII as a backup. I wish I were rich.

Re: EOS 1-n announced in 1994 (nt)

Actually they just said "the biggest news in 10 years", read take or give a few years. More of saying they had BIG breaking things coming up.

I think two of us are going, so should I found out quickly I will post it here.

What is happening on Sept 5th?

Is there a meeting/conference then? That's a Sunday.

Doubt it...

M&A deals are typically announced as soon as there is a general agreement among the key parties (which are usually a very small number of senior execs. at the affected companies). Planning a big event to announce an acquisition, merger, etc. lets too many people in on the secret and dramatically raises the possibility of insider trading (or at the very least investor lawsuits claiming inappropriate trading).

If a truly "big" announcement is going to be made it will be product or technology related.

Personally, I'll bet its the 1Ds replacement or some longer term technology SOD.

Hmm meeting in Stockholm?

Could it have anything to do with some tie with Hasselblad?

The EF mount won't last forever, but....

...to announce new mount technology less than a year after announcing the flagship body (which, BTW, still remains in short supply) would be pretty stupid. And what would you attach to this new mount? A new mount needs to be tied to a new volume body (a new 1Ds isn't really a high volume product) and some new lenses to use it. I don't doubt that the EF mount will be replaced eventually, but the timing doesn't feel right.

Could it be something along the lines of broader product support for the EF-S mount?

I hope not in my lifetime

I'm old enough to hope the EF mounts will last my shooting lifetime or at least the life of my camera body. I've got so much invested in good glass. I didn't have money invested in FDs except for one lone zoom when the shift to EF mount came. This forum as gotten me into so much trouble. LOL.

I read it.

I was just saying that it would be BIG news. I don't see that happening anytime soon, but if we are creating new rumors, might as well make them BBBIIIGGG ones:-)

something exceptional coming a few months ago. This may be it. I think he's had his hot little hands on whatever is coming.

No 1Ds (probably) but new Printers

I tried to find out some more, and it is probably "just" a new printer series.

So their statment might be true (biggest since 10 years)....... if you apply it to printers...

Not what I wanted, but could be interesting if they come up with something to compete with Epson 2100.

Sorry guys, but it seems 1Ds Mark II will be later. Hopefully PMA.

Death by lens mount?

I'm going to guess the EF mount will expire before you do (unless the press release announcing it kills you), but the adoption rate of new mount technology tends to be slow. There are still people out there with a collection of FD lenses who can't bring themselves to upgrade. So you probably could live out the rest of your life with your MkII and EF lens collection. The big catch is when the EF mount cameras get too old to repair economically. Then life gets tough. But look on the bright side, you might be dead before that happens. ;^)
