***BEWARE*** Image Cropping and Hackers

read this article

http://www.techtv.com/unscrewed/funandgames/story/0,24682,3509738,00.html

from tech tv where host Cat Schwartz posted cropped photos of herself on her personal weblog and then found out that people could still see a full thumbnail of the original photo she took. leaving her exposed to the world

learned something new today at least. anyone else known about this?

Good to know. You can use the postcard-ware program exifer to solve this problem.

Or jhead ( http://www.sentex.net/~mwandel/jhead/ ) has a -dt option to delete thumbnails.

Nothing had to be reconstructed. A digital camera jpeg has the exif data stored in it's header. You can use a program like exifer

http://www.exifer.friedemann.info/ to view all the exif data, including the thumbnail of the original. With exifer you can change or delete any of the exif data including the thumbnail.

The other free, usefull program is EXIF Image Viewer from:-

http://home.pacbell.net/michal_k/

In a nutshell, it gives you the thumbnail and EXIF info for all the pictures in a folder as a list, which can be sorted and viewed in any order. Like aperture used, etc etc. And it's a good example of a lot of program in a tiny little package.
