Digital cameras and scanners store information about the camera, and the conditions under which the image was exposed/digitised. This data is stored in EXIF format. In Jpegs, segment APP1 holds Exif data, though Exif is stored in other Image formats too.

This information might be of use to you if you're writing an image browser, image categoriser or photo album.

Hey thank you but I know the Exif meaning.

I asked paticulary about "gain control" in Exif. One of the Exif items.

Kind regards,
thorin

Re: Gain control in Exif? What does it mean?

The Gain Control is for "Control of CCD signal amplification" (so it's close to what ISO rating is for).

In EXIF 2.2, you have:

Gain Control
Value Abbrev Num Meaning
--------------------------------------------------------------------
none n 0 "None"
low-gain-up lgu 1 "Low Gain Up"
high-gain-up hgu 2 "High Gain Up"
low-gain-down lgd 3 "Low Gain Down"
high-gain-down hgd 4 "High Gain Down"
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Gain control in Exif? What does it mean?

So should it be important to analyze it?

Thanks and regards,
