Sony NP-FM50 battery

I charged my original cam battery one time in the camera. After that I used an aftermarket quick charger. Ambico.. I think. It comes with adapters for many types of batteries. You can charge one while shooting with another. Maybe try that type charger and see if the battery takes a charge. also charge the battery full. disconect the charger then charge again, immediately. (not something I would do in the camera, Overcharging the old batt.s had the possibility of making them explode or vent gas, I am not sure what happens with the newer NmH and lithium batteries) Sometimes a double charge wakes them up some.

So, how do you charge the battery if it is not in the camera? Is
there some other thing I should purchase to charge batteries?

And, one of you said to take the Mem stick out and stick it into a
Mem card reader (which I do not have) instead of downloading
directly from the camera. Is this the best way to keep from
draining these batteries out?

So, I guess I need an "external battery charge"r (what is the name
so I can purchase one) and a "Mem card reader" (also need name of
it)???
And, of course 2 more batteries before I go on my trip. Per
another poster I need to fully charge each new battery before using
it. Right?

On trips can I just charge the battery in the camera when it gets
low so I don't have to drag all the other stuff around? I am
taking my laptop and can download the photos to a CD if necessary.
But our kids always want to see the all the photos on the computer
at the end of the day in a slide show. Thanks for everyone's help!

As soon as I saw the size of the "transformer" that came with my 707, I knew I was not going to lug it around. I bought the Sony charger (from Sony). Much smaller, lighter and charges the battery pretty quickly.

Has the added advantage of running on either 110 or 220 volt current. All I needed in Italy for two weeks in March was a plug adapter.

I carry 3 batteries-one in the camera and two in the case. When travelling, I never want to run out and I can recharge at night.

I'll have to time my next transfer.

USB 2.0 makes it go Very fast.

Yeah, but we don't all have USB 2 . On laptops particularly it's
only the fairly (very) recent ones that are now putting it on
here...USB 1.1 is still pretty good though

I was just reading in the manual, and came across where it says to remove the battery when using the A/C adapter (if you're going to keep the camera on). Charge only with camera turned off. Hmmm
--I am now on my second NPFM50 batteries for this camera (DSC-S70).
It works fine for 6- 10 months and then the camera says "FULL"
after I charge, it but indicates no battery left when I disconnect
and turn the camera on. Does this mean I have to buy a THIRD
battery?? What is the deal with these batteries?? Are all Sony
batteries this crappy?
HELP!

Interesting... I always use the external charger... but thought most devices only charge when turned off. Otherwise it just works as an AC adapter.
