***Challenge 29: Nature's Creatures***

Hi Pops,

I'm glad that you enjoyed the humor! If 1) there really was a black cat, 2) in a real coalbin, and 3) it was really midnight, I would insist that the image be judged. You have to admit I had a nice touch with the time stamp in the Exif data. ;-)

But none of the 3 above were present. So, it's a joke and therefore invalid entry.

You're just lucky I didn't take a picture of a box and call it "Schrodinger's Cat" (after the famous quantum mechanics thought experiment).

Challenge lasts just 45 more minutes!

Best,

Paul
I don't know that Paul Sumi's "Black Cat in a Coalbin at Midnight"
really qualifies under the strict sense of the rules but I love the
concept! We need more humor in some of our entries.

WTG Paul!

Make photographs, not equipment lists!

The picture I submitted (white dog in red bandana) is bad, I know.

That's why I'm hoping any of you out there might be able to help me with a couple of questions so maybe next time I can do better.

First, I'll explain that the original I took was much sharper. But I decided to blur the background so you couldn't detect the blue quilt - and obviously I didn't do a good job. That's just me needing to learn Photoshop (I only have the LE 5.0 that came with my camera).

But! My main problem was trying to resize my picture according to the challenge rules. I kept trying to reduce it and I believe each time I adjusted the size, I was loosing photo quality. Can anyone tell me the best way to re-size a photo for entry?

And lastly, the lower 1/4th of the picture is cut off when you click the thumbnail - it wasn't cut off llike that until today.

Thanks to anyone who has answers. And Pops!, that was a great tutorial you posted for newbies!

Thanks,
Boots

I use PS Elements 1.0. I assume that PS 5 LE is the same. I click on Image -> Resize -> Image Size and then specify the width in pixels (600 or 800). I then do a save as to a jpg format which gives me the opportunity to specify compression so that I can get the image under 150k. Hope this helps.

Thank our friends at teh Sony Talk Forum Challenges. I just copied the whole thing. They deserve all the credit.

Thanks, Pops - I tried this and it worked well. Much better than my previous method!
