So, I jumped there yesterday but noticed today there is some controversy regarding their TOS. You essentially give their parent company FULL RIGHTS to any image you post there.

Maybe that was the same here as well but it has given me pause.

They also want you to pay to be able to see EXIF (which their TOS says they have full rights to delete in any subsequent use of your images).

Yeah, I noticed that also a few days ago... Only  had a post with 2 images, deleted that one, not sure if that did anything, or they keep an 'archive'.
I'll use mu-43 just for equipment threads - no images.
thinking micro43.org will do fine for images... and prolly will be my primary.
Thx

Been an infrequent poster over at MU-43 and recently revisited to learn of the TOS situation. Seems that the  new parent company behind MU-43 is pretty insensitive to intellectual property rights of photographers. I’m still looking for a new place to land.

As a few others have said, one of the DPR members created the micro43.org site. Simple sign up, no ads and some of us have already joined.

Check it out, some have already restarted some of the common threads frequently seen here.

My Jeep will probably arrive after DPReview shuts down, so I won't be able to post a photo here. BTW, it's a "mid-spec" Rubicon, intended for daily driving for the next couple of years before I retire, coupled with light to moderate off-roading. So, no XR (my wife needs to be able to get in it) and no 392, as much fun as that would be. I got the V6 and chose Firecracker Red.

I wanted the wife to get a red Rubicon for herself but she wouldn't be in it.  We have a MY2012 Grand Cherokee 3L turbo diesel that I've added a Bluespark tuning box.  It came with an off-road pack and quadra-lift but I've added rock rails, front bash plate, sump guard, Chief front recovery hooks.  Swapped the crappy Kumho road tryes for stock sized Bridgestone 396 A/T tyres.  This is my photography escape module.

I'm just hearing about all this today and reading a number of threads here.  Absolute shock with all of this.  Still waiting for someone to come out and say "Gotcha"!

Well for the few people I have known here, it's been real.  If you want to keep up with me, I'm still over at PhotographyTalk , so hopefully they don't close doors too because I'd be screwed.  ha ha ha

God bless

Truth be told, I'm not all that surprised. The site got old and the forums got argumentative (my lens is bigger than yours! - you get the metaphor). First and foremost, it's an ad driven business. If traffic drops and ads are not generating business - it's over. It's a niche site for a niche market.

I went over to Mastodon. Search for #microfourthirds and you'll sweat that you've gone to heaven. It's actually about photography, not cameras, or ego. (Mastodon is just one app/site to get onto the "Fediverse", a universe of crowd funded interconnected servers.) It's not social media, but global relationships. Since it's not one site, it can't "go away". There's a photosharing "site", too: Pixelfed. All crowd funded.

Knowledge should never be in one place and vulnerable. The Fediverse solves that.

I don't know if someone is keeping tabs on all the suggestions of where we could go, there are many, but maybe, come April, we should have a survey of where people are going.  I think it's job for one of the moderators... hint hint.  I would do it but don't know enough about other sites.

I don’t like the look or feel of any of the existing alternate sites,

But I do have some level of confidence that these guys will build something good . .

The best I've seen so far by a long way Pete. Signed up already earlier today. The last thing I want is purely one brand. Plain boring IMO.

You mean you would be happier with a site that's not like dpreview?

Frankly the advertisements on dpreview have never bothered me - they are easy to ignore.

mu-43 advertisements are huge, and right in your face slap bang in the middle of the conversation.

Any site that cannot be navigated sensibly without an Ad Blocker is not for me.

I am a bit surprised that anyone might think that huge advertising presence that makes a site viable is quite ok if such advertisements that make the site viable are routinely blocked by all its users.

Something wrong with someone's theory there.

Bite the bullet Tom, just for a bit, leave later. Might as well be part of something.

Maybe all these people hate when I chime in, and I don't care, because they are all folks I have found myself in multiple threads with, around here. Whether I even engage with them on whichever topic, I usually agree with some of what they have to say, and respect the way they say it, even if we disagree instead (on no particular topic). Most of these people have also changed my mind, or furthered my knowledge in something we agreed upon.

In no Particular order,
Tom Caldwell, Stephen Stangways, Bassam Guy, cba_melbourne, Guy Parsons, Skeeterbytes, Messier Object......

I sure hope to see them somewhere elses around the web.
Maybe some or all but you already exist over on mu-43.

In a few days, mu-43 might not be the best, but sure seems better than the rest.

Hopefully this place finds a way through this, but until then, there kind of seems like an obvious place to at least give a shot for a few weeks, no?

Heh, heh, count me out as I fully intend to drop out of sight, though my web pages will still be mostly there for people to stumble upon.

I've spent something over 30 years in various photo related foums and just over 20 years here at DPR, so it's time for me to retire and contemplate other hobbies and tasks that have been neglected somewhat.

I sure hope to see them somewhere elses around the web.

Just out of curiosity, on your stats, it says total messages 44,774. Is that to include DM?

That's totally weird. When I look at my Stats I see 37,695 yet when I look at my post above it shows 39,976, so I have no idea how they come to those numbers.

The DMs would only amount to a few hundred, the demise of the Off Topic maybe removed a fair chunk, plus the usual mod intervention in removing troublesome sub-threads maybe zapped a few more posts. The 44K+ number you saw may really be the full total I've done over the years, but I simply don't see that number anywhere when I look.

My mistake Guy.

I had clicked on Tom Caldwell, so those are his stats.

I actually see that 37,??? (And counting) number in the stats. I see the 39,??? On your individual posts (after your name).
