So where to, my friends?

With DPR leaving, where can we take this party?

I hate to lose the community that has been so good and supportive over 22+ years. Is there another place to go which would keep this community alive and well?

Jeff, perhaps it's time to move on and for many to re-enter the real world but I know that's an odd concept nowadays.

A couple months ago a friend of mine and I started a local photo club. We get together monthly to discuss photography in person. What in these forums takes a hundred replies to questions and 99 of them with wrong answers is done in a few minutes hands on in person. In two months our club already has 30 members, with about a dozen actively involved. I look forward to each meeting with the new friendships that have been developed. The new paradigm of virtual meetings etc., may be the new norm for some but I see it as a social disease and our members seem to agree how refreshingly nice it is to meet people in person.

Theres no lack of gear reviews online so it's not the end of the world.

Camera clubs are fine for those who have one nearby - many people don't.  I used to go to one not far from my place, but found it stuck in the ritual of competitions with other clubs, rather than talking about photography.

I also frequent Fred Miranda forums.

It's sad that this is closing. I check dpreview on a daily basis with my morning coffee.

That is the reason I helped to start a club. It took me less time to do that than to read a hundred wrong answers.

I'm glad it works for you. To me, the main plus point for dpreview is that, in amongst the bluffers, the snarky commenters and so on, there is a hard core of really knowledgeable people. There is no way I would get that depth of knowledge in a local camera club.

Hate to say it but it looks like Facebook is the last man standing. There are quite a number of M43 groups there. But a word of advice, steer clear of the public groups. because that's where you find all the spammers and worse.

Facebook is one of the sources of problems, not the solution IMHO. Through all these years I observed the fall of many specialistic forums in the net, due to people moving their activity on that single platform.
