First Effort with Macro Lens
17

I looked around but these guys were the only thing I thought would look interesting perhaps though not micro macro. These little guys were always moving around so it was difficult to hold focus. This is a White-marked Tussock Moth Caterpillar. This caterpillar is very toxic.

I've been interested in trying macro and finally found a great deal on a macro lens. I spend most of my time outdoors hiking, kayaking etc. I think macro will add to my photo opportunities.

Those caterpillars can change color with each instar.  They are very pretty.

Thanks Gary but hardly an effort on my part other than pointing the lens in the right direction. The lens is quite amazing as is my camera. With the technology in all cameras within the past dozen or more years you'd have to go out of your way to bungle a shot imo.

I've read about this lens, and saw examples showing the best of its capabilities which caught my interest. Photos of the lens and even the specifications of size belie its diminutive dimensions and weight. When the lens arrived in an 8x8x8 box I thought it was empty! When I found this little lens buried inside the box surrounded by styrofoam packing balls, I could not believe how tiny & light it was. I had to read the text on the lens to make sure it was the lens I ordered! I have lens hoods which seem to weigh more than this lens!

I will say it was fun to use not only on my first effort to get some macro shots but also as a very impressive portrait and short tele landscape lens. I also got a couple extension tubes which I will tryout once I first get this little midget figured out.

I can see many uses for this lens and glad I got it.

Yes they are quite amazing in the various body protrusions, hairs, color and details.  They're supposed to be toxic too. Some years ago my arm brushed up against a caterpillar (I don't remember which kind) while on a back backing trip and my arm burned as though held in a fire and swole to twice the size! Excruciatingly painful for many hours with no remedy.
