Blown away by my new R10 kit.
15

Firstly a big thanks to contributors to this forum. I have been lurking around here for more than two years gathering information. For a newby, the information was at times overwhelming. Just when you think you know what to do, new information appears and you go down a rabbit hole investigating.

My interest in birds, and the feedback I saw on the RF 100-400 swayed me in that direction. A great special at the end of last year and my decision was made. Imagine that, buying a lens and no camera to put it on.

Having done a lot of research, I knew March was a good time for specials here, so just had to wait it out. With the new R50 arriving, there was some great deals on the "older" cameras to be had. The R10 + 18-150 kit with adapter was on great sale, so just had to do it.

Got my kit yesterday, and wow, I am impressed. The 18-150 had greater reach than I anticipated. Took a quick walk in the garden taking some shots.

With small hands, the R10 fits like a glove. With the 100-400 it is an easy walk around kit.

At this stage, I am still learning my equipment, and of course photography. I have to say, so far so good, and it has been easy to get around. A snapshot I took while playing around with settings on the camera.

I have "cropped" it to 61% for composition. Straight out of camera Jpeg.

Nice sunbird (?) - where are you located?  The R10 works very nicely with full frame lenses, not just the 100-500, I find the 24-105 STM makes a very nice light combo too.

Welcome!

This is a nice first picture! It is wonderful to read about the experiences and excitement of  someone new to the R system and to photography and to feel that coming through a first posting. You have chosen your equipment well. May you never lose that enthusiasm.

Oops.  Yes it is a Malachite Sunbird going through a moult.  Can take 70 days.  I am from South Africa.

Good to hear about the other lenses, but think my budget is spent for years to come.

I guessed SA - I have some sunbird photos from a visit to Kirstenbosch gardens at the Cape five years ago.  My second visit to SA, beautiful country, will be back again!

Congrats on the great kit!  (Very nice photo as well!)

I've been playing around with an R10 too (it's a co-worker's), and it's an extremely capable little camera.  Why not, it's powered by DIGIC X!

Enjoy your new camera.  Shoot everything in sight!
