Portrait captured with X-T5 and 18-55 Fuji Lens
23

Hi

I am trying to learn to portrait photography with new X-T5 and 18-55 Fuji lens . I have been a long time Nikon user and love portraits with 50 mm prime lens. Fuji zoom lens are not bad either. For this style of armature photography, I am considering buying Viltrox 75mm 1.2 lens .

This is a picture of my daughter, during our recent trip to Rabdentse Ruins in Pelling, India

Please feel free to share you suggestions about improving my portrait photography skills and any lens or post processing advices

Nice picture! Two comments though. 1) it’s shot at 25mm,and 2) it’s shot at 7.1. If you are considering the Viltrox I would consider shooting at 55 f4 on your 18-55 to get a closer feel for what a longer, more wide open focal length is like.

Agreed. Also, you might try to place her on the left side of the frame  instead of the right side. Using a lower F stop, you can get the stones to fade away into a blur.

I get that as better practice pro portrait advice, but I actually prefer that the photographer chose not to do either of those things here.

The extra detail in the wall grounded her to the setting in a nice way for a travel photo and her being slightly frame right looking left gives a thoughtful hopeful quality that really worked for me. Excellent photo!

In my opinion, your portrait is excellent.

I like the framing, I like the contrast. The bricks add very interesting lines, leading the eye to the actual subject, that is your daughter.

Beautiful daughter.

Just keep going. You're doing good work.

Cheers,

Martin
