Peak Design Clutch Camera Hand Strap for an X-Tn ?

Anyone using the PD Clutch Camera Hand Strap on an XT camera?

How is it? Isn't it too big for the XT? Perhaps better with an added handgrip?

Or can you suggest another hand/wrist strap that's better suited?

I'm looking for a wrist strap for an X-T2/3, with wide & normal FL lenses, for event and street photography. Should be comfortable when carrying the camera with the arm down, i.e., not causing hand fatigue by having to grip the camera constantly.

Thanks!

Mine is terrible. Once you put it on you wrist, good luck getting the damn thing off. I would choose almost any other wrist strap.

This one is functional, strong and cheap.

Over the years, I have tried various hand straps and found I do not like hand straps for this very reason.  On the other hand I do use wrist straps and do like the Peak Design cuff.

Oops. It’s actually the Cuff that I have. It’s like a noose that can only tighten. The Clutch may be ok. Don’t have any experience with that one.

The Peak Design clutch doesn’t work well with Fujifilm cameras. With that many dials and buttons in the top plate, your finger won’t reach them when the clutch is on. I like Peak Design products and have many of them. The clutch is the only one I return and get a refund.

Check out Cosyspeed strap

I picked up the cosyspeed quick sally not too long ago. I added a peak design anchors to the end to use with the other half of the anchor links that are on the camera to make it quick release.

link to strap- www.cosyspeed.com/en-usacdn/products/quick-sally-die-einhand-schlaufe

Quick phone shot of pd anchor attached to strap.

FWIW - I don’t like their hand straps. I have a T2 and hand carry it along with it having my RRS L bracket …. like you are moving away from. It’s easy for me to carry it that way. I do use the Sling strap and let it hang around my neck. Can carry it that way and then remove the strap to hand carry when wanting to. My answer might not be what you want to hear and your specific use case. Good luck and happy shooting.

Cordy strap is perfect imo compared to the peak design strap. Have had both and I couldn't stand how uncomfortable the peak-design wrist strap was (I have giant wrists to be fair).

Are you referring to the Peak Design "clutch" or "cuff" ?

If you're talking about the "cuff" stuck to your wrist I had that issue too and struggled with it cinching so easily.

Then learned you're suppose to pull the cuff all the way to semi-lock it in position. Stays loose on your wrist. Doesn't cinch unless you drop the camera.

The Cuff is awesome....Not sure what others had problems with but I use it on my Xh2, X100v, XT4 when I owned one, Leica M11 and a Leica MP.

Love it for all cameras. I use it when I want to just hand carry as I walk around and take photos. I would rather wear this then drop a 10K camera and lens on the ground.

Watch the videos on it...Its exactly how it looks.

I use a Joby wrist strap that works perfectly. Unfortunately it is no longer available.

Yes. The PD cuff is great. That’s my mostly used strap. I have the slide, slide lite but I always go with the cuff.

PD Cuff is great indeed. Online criticism towards it is common, and almost always the root cause is user error. Cuff does not tighten around one's wrist uncomfortably, neither is it hard to remove.

Another vote for the PD cuff. I use a PD slide and it's really quick to switch between the two. The cuff is great for street photography.

I have the clutch. The problem with using it on an XT-X camera is that you can't reach the shutter button with your finger if it's tight enough to be able to walk around with the camera at your side in your hand. The XH bodies are a great match with it but unless you want to loosen it or slip your hand out every time you want to take a photo it's useless with the XT's.

Talking about the Cuff. Sorry to the OP for mistakenly introducing this sub-thread.

The lock feature is super tight on mine. It takes both hands and almost a pair of pliers to engage it. Using it without it means that it always cinches. And once cinched, if it doesn't amputate my hand, I have to set the camera down and use both hands to take it off (camera is too heavy to pull one side of the strap through the lug).

I guess you could say that once engaged, leave it engaged. But then that makes it just a loop that flops around on my wrist without tightening at all.

The parachute chord models that I use seem to respond very intuitively to whatever weight is on my hand or whatever my hands are doing. I don't even realize it's there most of the time, which is perfect. And the D ring slider doesn't offer any resistance when trying to remove.

Hope that made sense.

Guess yours is defective or something got caught/worn? Shouldn't need "pliers" to engage. Only bit extra tug like in the video.

Maybe you are pulling it wrong. Gold the strap with one hand and slide the silver buckle up with the other. It should slide effortlessly up/down, then apply bit extra tug at the end to lock. Can even do this one handed

If you yank/pull the strap with it angled/perpendicular near the buckle it won't lock. Needs to slide freely.

I guess you could say that once engaged, leave it engaged. But then that makes it just a loop that flops around on my wrist without tightening at all.

A properly functioning CUFF would unlock with the weight of a camera falling and cinch/tighten.

I'm not a fan of the pd cuff because I'm obsessive about the condition of my gear. The metal attachment bothers me. I realize it won't cause too much damage, but I don't want to risk it. Instead, I prefer the Paracord with plastic cinches.

I like PD's products overall though.

And the loose fitting loop is precisely why I really like the Cuff. Because of way I have the Cuff mounted to the bottom of my cameras (as oppose the strap lug on the side), the loose Cuff just slides down my wrist and hangs out of the way. There is certainly no flopping around.

I wasn't too thrilled with the Cuff at first UNTIL I found that it can be locked opened as such. I do not want or need a wrist strap snuggly around my wrist at any time. I just have on for security from dropping a camera and the Cuff fits that need. It is completely out of way when shooting or walking but if I should accidently drop, it cinches up snuggly. I do not need put the camera down to uncinch. I just put it in the cradle of my other arm and quickly uncinch with the free hand.

Another complaint about the Cuff is the metal clasp.  With the way I have the Cuff mounted, the metal part does not come close to camera and hangs below the camera.  There is no potential marring.

I have tried several durable wrist straps that can handle the mid- to large-mirrorless cameras. Best overall for convenience and build are these rope types (various brands available):

https://www.amazon.com/Unisex-Compatible-Mirrorless-Cameras-Photographers/dp/B08RS5HMP4

The rope loop-type strap is just easier to use than straps requiring two hands to cinch up a band around the straps - the band tends to fail under stress. So, I'm agree with GreatOceanSoftware above.
