M6II Touchscreen issues

Hello all,

Bit of a long time lurker, and long time user of the M series of cameras.

Currently I am having some issues with my M6II. I've had it since 2019 and its worked fine until now.

The issue is with the touchscreen. It does not respond to my touch unless I am holding the camera.

For instance if I have it on a tripod and try to use the screen it will not respond at all. However if I even just touch another part of the camera while using the touchscreen it works fine.

I think there is maybe some sort of grounding issue.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks

Yes when using an AC adapter.  USB cable from the camera to the computer will ground it.

I use a switch that disconnects the USB connections when needed but keeps the ground always connected.

Yes, but with phone. It was laid on a wooden table and after a while didn't respond to touch. Picking it up and laying back again solved that.

On (capacitive) touch screens an electric circuit is formed, device chassis' charge is transferred to our body through finger and the location of touch can be revealed. If there is no connection between device and earth, when all of its charge is depleted touch won't work anymore. You can simply recharge the camera by touching its body, wheels and buttons.

Any critique and comment, with help in mind, is highly appreciated. More frank, the better.

Re: M6II Touchscreen issues

Thanks for the replies.

I found my issue...I had a very old light box turned on near to my camera (scanning film negs), as soon as I turned it off the issue was gone. Tried turning it on and off a few times and it's a repeatable problem. Also I could have my camera on a tripod with a fair amount of distance and on rubber feet but it still interfered!

That light box is now going to be recycled!

Thanks
