Is RF 70-200 f 2.8 lens supposed to rotate freely in its tripod collar when the screw is loosened?

I just watched this video for EF version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hz_36R6R5AY

My RF version doesn't seem to rotate as freely (barely at all) even when I loosen the screw.

Are they all like that or is mine defective in that respect?

The RF and EF long lens collars are very different

The short answer is that yours sounds normal. The mechanism is very different between the RF and EF big lens tripod mounts.

My RF70-200 f2.8 does not rotate that freely, even with the screw out, even if I have just clicked the collar on the lens and not turned the screw. With my RF70-200f2.8, I have to come pretty close to backing the screw all the way out to turn the lens. The RF70-200 is so light that I don't use a tripod or monopod with the lens, so I rarely put the collar on.

My RF100-500 collar works pretty much the same, if just a little more freely when the screw is backed all the way out.

I have an old EF100-400IS with a much different mechanism (you can't take the foot off easily like the RF ones - I don't think I have had the collar off every in 20+ years with the lens), and it spins freely when you loosen the screw.
