Re: X-T3 arrived - New lens for everyday use?

Well, if it was me I'd not sell the 16-80.  For me it's a great travel lens, and standard zoom.  Next summer we're going on an Alaska cruise, and I have a 70-300 for that.

I'd suggest getting a prime in the standard range, I have a 33mm f/1.4 but you might want to consider one of the compact f/2 primes, either the 23mm f/2 or 35mm f/2.  The 23mm f/2 is more versatile.  But I'm a 50mm-e person.  So, it also depends on what focal length you prefer for snap shooting.

Best of luck.

Congrats on the camera! I have the X-T3 + 16-80 f/4 and then 40-150 f/2,8. I find the 16-80 to be a delight.  With that said, if you do not "need" the WR, then look at the 18-55 f/2.8-4....I had it way back when with my original X-E1 and X-T1 bodies.  A great lens, super sharp, nice aperture, smooth focusing and smaller/lighter than the 16-80.  As others have said, if you in the mood for a prime, then I like the 28mm pancake or the newer 23 f/2 WR lens. That 23 gives you a 35mm FOV which I adore and love on the X100V. If I didn't have the X100V, I'd have picked up that little gem a long time ago.

As suggested previously, select the cron with the focal length you like for your carry around lens. Small, fast, light, relatively low price.

I will not suggest a long lens for you. Here is another suggestion. Rent a long lens. You suggested that the tele lens may not be needed for a long period. Who needs an expensive lens they will not use for a long time?
