Canon R6 Mark II - Continuous Focus for Selfies with Timer

Hi,

I have a Canon R6 Mark II. The flip-screen is great and should allow me to take selfies with the 2 seconds timer using a Joby Gorillapod. One of the challenges though, is that once I press the shoot button, almost always I then have to recompose the frame, messing up with the focus. Is there a way to set the focus to continuously track the eye during the 2 seconds timer?

I usually do selfies with aperture f1.8, and the slightest changes in focus ruins the photo.

Thanks,
Fabio

Have you tried CameraConnect and trigger the shutter via your smartphone? That way you don't have to use a 2 second timer.

Preview AF in the AF 3 menu tab

No - Preview AF locks when shutter button is pressed

Unless I'm missing something, AF 3 Preview AF doesn't do the trick. Focus locks immediately after shutter button is pressed.

Continuous focus during 10 sec self-timer would be nice.

+1

And it could be done by an easy FW update.

Until that time the remote mobile app will do so very well, as mentioned above.

While that does work, I now have a lot of family photos where I'm awkwardly trying to hide the hand that holds the phone

Lol!

It does work well though, even down to the way you can hold continuous focus and just slide your finger to capture.

It’s been a shortcoming that I’ve experienced since my 70D. Bit surprised that they haven’t sorted it over all those years.

Why not try Interval Timer Option 7 under main cameras menu. You can also combine the timer with the self timer and also with continuous focus. This is what I use when I travel alone and need a few selfies.

Set it up for 1 second interval and maybe 5-10 shots. So happy Canon has this option because my last Sony A74 does not. It will not focus after the first interval shot.

Not sure if this was suggested since I didnt read all the posts but this works for me.

Thank you for your suggestion. I will try that. I hope that Canon releases a firmware update with an option to configure the self-timer autofocus behavior.
