Anyone else had problems with their X-H2?
2

I've had an X-H2 since last November after owning an X-T4, X-S10, X-T3, and X-T20. I've never had issues with any of my cameras. However, I have experienced a lot of smaller hardware and software issues with my X-H2 that it's starting to build up into a bigger problem. I'm wondering whether any of these problems are common or have I just had bad luck?

  1. Screen failure (screens flicking on and off) - eventually this led to a complete failure.
  2. Lock ups when pressing the shutter button - requiring battery to be removed to reset.
  3. Focus false positives – especially in subject detection. The camera will say the subject is in focus with a green box but the subject is completely out of focus.
  4. 2.4Ghz wifi module failure - requiring the camera to be dismantled to reconnect module.
  5. Battery door weather sealing warping (likely due to being dismantled to repair wifi module), requiring replacement.

The camera was replaced by the retailer after the first issue, then the new body has experienced the other issues with Fuji Professional Services carrying out repairs..

Just to give you my random datapoint and to share my experience as an X-H2 owner from launch ...

I have run into #2 and #3. I have-not run into #2 since the last firmware update (v. 1.21) but it's not that long yet. #3 has shown up with subject detect modes - but not in simple AF-S or AF-C modes without subject detection. I have never run into #1 or #4 or #5.

The flickering LCD screen in #1 is worrisome. Battery door on my X-H2 is perfectly normal - but it should be an easy replacement. I haven't tried the WiFi connection ever (#4).

Good luck and I hope you get it all sorted out with Fuji to your satisfaction! It sounds like they're working with you on sorting it all out.

I'm okay with my not quite perfect (yet functional) X-H2 - but I don't have a warped battery door lol.

NO

  1. Lock ups when pressing the shutter button - requiring battery to be removed to reset.

Only lockup was with a Fringer adapter so may not be a Fuji problem

  1. Focus false positives – especially in subject detection. The camera will say the subject is in focus with a green box but the subject is completely out of focus.

I have gotten the occasional mis focus but not often. Typically AF-C tracking in use.

  1. 2.4Ghz wifi module failure - requiring the camera to be dismantled to reconnect module.

Never tried WiFi

  1. Battery door weather sealing warping (likely due to being dismantled to repair wifi module), requiring replacement.

Battery door is fine

The camera was replaced by the retailer after the first issue, then the new body has experienced the other issues with Fuji Professional Services carrying out repairs..

The above applies to both the X-H2s and X-H2 bodies which I have owned since release. Aside from the sensor the bodies are identical so the X-H2s should be relevant to your questions.

I've had two H2s failures. The first, two days after purchase. On slow shutter speeds the camera would make a loud grinding sound. Returned it to the shop I purchased it from and they swapped it out for another brand new unit.
3 months later the EVF on that one went out. I then decided that was enough with the H2s and replaced it with an XT5.
I'd literally never had an issue with any camera I've ever owned (plenty of Nikon and Fuji gear over the years) until the H2s. It's a fantastic camera and perhaps I was just unlucky, but, I was not at all pleased with my experience with the repeated failures.

That's unfortunate. While mine isn't perfect, certainly no problems like you've experienced.

Purchased mine last December. Shutter count >10k.

1: Nope. Both LCD and EVF have performed flawlessly.

2: No.

3: Sadly, this is an issue. While I haven't experienced "completely out of focus" with a green box, definitely a fair number of green box shots that are slightly out of focus. Even when using focus priority, bright daylight, AF-S I still experience occasional false positives.

4: No idea (I do use bluetooth, which has been fine)

5: No

Other than the false positive issue, which is more of an occasional annoyance than a real problem for me, my X-H2 has been excellent.

Is this with certain lenses only? I am asking cause that random OOF thing is something that has been bothering me with my X-E3s and X-T3 for some time. Thought it might have been finally fixed on the new models (I know that it wasn't fixed on the X-E4 and x100v).

I own both XH2s and XH2. The AF of XH2 is close to perfect on still subject Now talking about tracking in AFC with subject recognition in burst, if I compare the 2 bodies I would quote the XH2 as 60% of XH2s performance which means 40% of misses or OOF shots in fast action.

My minute of philosophy : anyway, at the end of the day among the files recorded, you nearly always have THE file you wanted..

Clearly XH2 is not designed for very fast action, but in real world the camera does deliver

Coming back to quality of built, I do find all the small doors including the battery one to be a bit flimsy. The XH1 was much stronger. Yes I know, weight is the enemy...

It happens with all the lenses I own, never had the problem on any of my previous bodies..

Would you say worth swapping from an X-H2 to an X-H2S for the better subject detection alone, or only if that subject is moving? I’m wondering whether I’ve just got a ‘bad’ copy of the X-H2 and so maybe swapping for another body might solve some of the issues, at least the hardware ones.

The hardware is the same on both. Even if IMO I find some parts a bit flimsy, I have no issue at all in terms of strength. I much prefer the sensor of the S which gives sharper results and allows using ES most of the time without rolling shutter effect. IMO 500€/$ difference is really worth. As my second body the XH2 does the job.

I've had mine since Oct 2022 (got one when it was released) and so far, zero problems.

I DID have a X-T4 in the past that would randomly not power on unless I removed/reinserted the battery, but I'm not sure if that was later resolved with firmware (I ended up returning it for something else).  Anyway, no problems at all with my X-H2.

This is just me, but I don't and won't put up with "failures" or "repairs" if my camera was purchased brand new.  I just send it back to the retailer and get my money back and get a different camera or wait more until Fuji fixes those issues completely.

Fuji is getting into that habit of selling new cameras with major issues.  I personally don't like that.

Good question, but I'm not sure.  I have too many lenses and haven't really taken note of which I'm using when it occurs. Something I will pay attention to going forward.

I have been using X bodies from Fuji since 2012 X100 XP1 XT1XT2 XT3 XH1 XH2 XH2s and never has any issue related to hardware, and same with the lenses.

I have had my XH-2 since November. Mine has worked fairly reliably until a week ago when the usb port stopped working preventing me from shooting tethered. The only issues I have also had are hot shoe suddenly not working and the odd battery removal fix when it freezes. Fuji lent me a replacement body for a two day shoot. OMG. First issue half way through first set up the camera changed setting to medium file size from large. Luckily picked it up but couldn’t change it back, until dreaded battery removal. Then focus area joystick stopped working again battery removal. Then usb socket stopped working and had to view everything on screen. Also seem to get odd things happen like level suddenly appear in viewfinder, face detection suddenly stop working, play back in viewfinder stopped working, all solvable by going back into menu but a pain when you have models on set and a client looking over your shoulder. Will reevaluate whether all kit goes back once returned from Fuji. Generally disappointing.

Interesting, maybe it's just a batch of them, or they are dropping quality control or using less quality components? Anyway, I just bought an A7iv to try out while mine is back in with the service centre. It's probably got its own set of issues too but looking forward to comparing them back to back when the X-H2 is returned.
