Re: Signs of Spring.

It's so great to see the blossoms which is a good sign of spring.  Also you caught the swan with a high enough shutter speed...wow...I bet that took some fast reactions from you.  I love the squirrel on a post to give you that background.  It's similar to a heron I found recently on a post.  The Shoveler looks super...great bright lighting to show the colors.

Re: Grass

I worked with some British fellows, so I know that they would say back garden instead of backyard.  We would use the word garden if we planted something special like flowers or vegetables.  But saying garden for backyard is perfectly OK too.  Remarkably there's only a handful of common words that are different, like we say "flashlight" and you all say "torch".  There's only a few words that are spelled different like favorite or color etc.  I loved hearing the accents of people from the UK.  They could be completely different because they lived long distances apart, but you all understand each other perfectly.   How was that?

I think the grass would have looked better with the daffodils that you saw.  I saw some today too where I live.  I hope you will show some of those flowers.

50 Feet of Snow

I just read that Mammoth Mountain in California got 50 feet of snow.  Go check it out. California this year has been hit with lots of moisture, with one atmospheric river after another.  The ski lift equipment is nearly buried.  Here's what it looked like last July when I was visiting the area on vacation, so you can see the difference.

It is interesting.

While studying a second language I came to realize more and more how unusual English is in some respects - particularly the spelling and lack of a case system.

I hope to.

Of course today it's grey and rainy.

Re: Grass

I should mention that we also have accents in the USA, but over the years I don't think they are as strong or different due to migration, TV and social media.  At least it seems that way to me, but I could be wrong there.

If it's not windy, you might want to take some pictures of rainy scenes.  I regret that I don't take enough of them as they are unique and interesting.  But it really is hard sometimes to take them under an umbrella in all of that cold and rain...brrr....

Re: Signs of Spring.

Hi Dunlin, Thank You.

The squirrel was sat on the post eating, It must of been good because I kept slowly approaching him and he never moved. Once I got my full frame shot, I slowly walked away and left him enjoying his treat.

Re: Signs of Spring.

Hi Digirame, Thank You.

It's funny how you suddenly notice tiny buds on the trees and then the blossom also, it's like a light switch turning on Spring. Today(Friday) temps. have been around 59F. and the Sun has been out making for a real Spring day for us.

At this time of year the birds and ducks on the lakes become mega active so I'm always on the alert for 'action'. On the 7D MkII I have 3 Custom settings so the last spot is for BIF's it only takes me to spin the dial till it stops to set it.

I was fortunate to have good light most days although on the first day it did snow and the day was dull.

I have been following that on the news as well, I am sure the floods and heavy snows are very difficult but in the end I bet they are happy to finally get some moisture. Cool shot here and loved the crocus as well.

Re: As spring apprrocahes our weather goes south

Well we had the warmest January on record and February wasn't far behind, normal snow fall was down over 2 feet so of course now that its spring cold weather shows up.  But Migration is improving.

Thanks Dunlin, I am getting a deeper understanding of the R7 (Basically let it do the work) and I am having a ball with it.

Hi Rocket,

WOW, excellent shots, love the Merganser he's really going for it.

Thanks Mocha, I have found with the R7 if I leave the entire screen active as far as AF points it locks on very fast and stays with my target. I was previously trying to use it like my DSLR, single point, back button focus etc and was actually getting frustrated  with it on fliers. Now I feel like I am  cheating lol.

I am now considering adding an R8. I have been doing more portrait stuff for friends and would like to dabble with full frame for that, I am already sold on this mirror less stuff. Lol

50 Feet of Snow - Thanks

Thanks.  It's hard to visualize 50 feet of snow, but if you view the pictures on the internet of the snow at Mammoth Mountain, you'll see the chairs on the lift are partially buried.  So the snow came up that high to them, that is about 50 feet.

Re: As spring approaches our weather goes south

I viewed your photos many times, sometimes at full zoom.  They are wonderful.  I'm glad you are enjoying the Canon R7.

We had some snow last month, but today it's sunny and will be over 60F.  I'll probably look for more flowers.

Olympus vs. Canon 7D

Hi mocha,

Sorry for the delay with answering (I never got round to it on Saturday and I was with my mum yesterday).

Sometimes I really enjoy the new Olympus camera (that is, most times). The reduction in weight really does make it more enjoyable; I'm able to bring the camera with me at times when I couldn't bring the 7D.

I do, sometimes miss the optical VF and big grip of the 7D, though.

Re: Olympus vs. Canon 7D

Hi Dunlin,

Good to know your getting to use the camera more, after all if you don't take your camera with you there's no photos to be had.

You've got to want to pick it up everytime you walk out the door.

Re: Olympus vs. Canon 7D

Would you enjoy my "new" Olympus OM-2 film camera which I bought at the "flea market" yesterday. It came with an Olympus 100mm f2.8 attached. They were both in A- condition and I bought both for $15 (US).

I plan to enjoy them once I have them checked over.

Re: Signs of Spring.

The first photo is a beautiful low contrast photo. The second is a great animal portrait.

You are not supposed to be able to do that with a camera mainly geared towards action photos:
