Cherry blossom: a bee's view ...
6

"Take mine, take mine!" cry the anthers on their long filaments, presenting their pollen to the bee.

But this one thinks: "Boy, is it crowded in here!"

A view into a cherry blossom at approx. 4x magnification (very slightly cropped, scene width about 4mm):

The green part is the style of the stigma, BTW.

Taken with OM-1/90mm macro with MC-20 2x tele converter. This combo is really sharp, I have to say - almost no PP sharpening necessary. And that using it wide open (it's wide open at super macro mode at f5, the 2x TC then gives f10).

Of course stacked - from 302 pics. Stacking done in Zerene.

Sorry that I disappointed you, Jim! I thought this was the way a bee would experience the scene.

Thanks for looking!

No probs, I doubt a bee would’ve the patience to stay for 300 images

Doesn't see a bee's eye 300 pictures at once?

Something like that...

That’s pretty neat.  What lighting did you use?

What lighting did you use?

A single, but in relation to the object very large LED light (a Godox 170) from the upper right. Gives a sense of directional lighting.

if you had a camera that took 300 pics all at once, all focussed slightly deeper, it’d be a best seller for macro nuts

Wasn’t there a light wave camera that allowed you to focus in post ? Whatever happened to that…

Indeed!

Ahh, the good ole' Lytro light field camera. Actually had the tiny (original) one. Was fun for a while, not only for post-focusing but also for creating small films with moving plane of focus IIRC. But picture quality was really bad and handling (incl. the necessary software for extracting the pictures) complicated ...

And it sure wasn't good for macro.

Lytro ceased to exist 2018. It was a nice concept, but didn't really work out, I guess.

It certainly does! Interesting to see this result, lighting looks good! But it won't freeze motion...that means one extra factor to seriously worry about (in my book).

Love it Phil, a great bee's eye view - it has the " giant forest " effect for sure.

You're absolutely right. But in this case - stacking 300 pics - flash also would be a challenge IMO. Not for the single picture capture of course, but for making sure nothings moves during the shooting. At least with my gear using flash would make the process considerably longer because of the flash recycle times. In the end all methods have their pros and cons.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks very much, Rodger - glad you like it!

That "forest" effect was also what I saw - hence the title of the thread.
