** Weekly Pentax Photo Thread 11 - 17 February **

*Please reply to this original post so that your post starts a new section and change the title to reflect the subject of your image/s.

*Keep it fresh, photographs you took or post-processed this week.

*If you can provide details on the subject, story, camera, settings and processing, that would be great for people reviewing the images.

*We have more than enough threads about gear, so let's have some photos showing what you and your Pentax camera or lenses can do. Beginner or pro, doesn't matter, this thread is about enjoying photography and perhaps receiving constructive feedback

expensive butterflies

Since no one is posting something fresh this week, I thought posting one image from an insect fair I attended some years ago in Prague. I processed this today in Capture One. The specimens were under glass, thus the low contrast. I did not correct the warm ambient light, to keep the image close to the memory I have about the place.

Still have the K-3 II and still loving it.

Now, seeing empty thread like this is kind of sad. I know the Pentax users here were not really enthusiastic about this kind of threads (weekly photo thread) when were introduced, and these never found much success.

In my opinion, it is a good thing gathering nice images in a single thread, to advertise the qualities of the system to users of other systems that happen to visit the Pentax page.

What do you think now about making this a monthly thread instead?

Sulphur Crested Cockatoo.
3

Here some from a few years ago.  I found these in my archives as I had been talking to my brother about cockatoos opening wheelie bin lids to get at food inside the bin.  He used to live on small a farm and feed the local parrots, crimson rosellas and king parrots mostly.  Occasionally Sulphur crested cockatoos would come for a feed.  He kept the sunflower seeds in a wide mouth screw top plastic drum.  He showed me a video he recorded on his phone of a cockatoo unscrewing the lid and helping itself to the seed inside.   Smart birds.

Here is one feeding on sunflowers in my garden.

all taken with K5 and Pentax 150-450

Hello Iso,

First thanks for sharing this nice photo and the others previously (BTW thanks to everyone who contributed),

Sorry for delay in answering, but you gave me an idea and it took some time to achieve what I had in mind, so here it is:

# posters and # messages in DPR Pentax weekly threads

It's not very scientific, but I (quickly) counted number of posters and messages in all weekly threads so far - I took over on 19th March 2022, so first conclusion is : people don't like me

More seriously, number of posters is not really number of different persons, rather number of contributing messages (with photos). Negative values are missing weeks.

It's easy to see it's declining ... Also what bothers me more is that total number of message declined a lot too, meaning people do not really comment or interact anymore about shared photos (number of likes too is rather very very low though I won't count them). I include myself in this : past months I've been contributing and commenting a lot less, but also on the forum overall. There are also some periods with more than 1 week without any contribution at all, which is a bit depressing when it happens I won't lie.

About your suggestion, I was thinking about it too to be honest, though it seemed a bit better after a difficult winter. Maybe I'll think go for a while like that, then I'll post a new poll about this to know what contributors would prefer (note: you can also react right here of course). My worry with monthly threads: usually if no one contributes at the beginning of a week period, then nothing happens. I would worry about the monthly thread remaining empty for the rest of the month if it reaches page 2 of the forums ... Having it weekly is a way to "reanimate" it every week But yes let's see what happens.

My text is too long and the curiosity effect of the chart is vanishing as people are reading my painful explaination - time to stop

Hi Jeremie,

Nice analysis. The descending trend probably shows the decreased activity in this forum, which is slightly worrying. I was not used seeing 3-week-old threads on the first page (on PC). Myself had much more time to browse dpreview as I was working from home during covid times. And actually more time to take photos, paradoxically maybe.

For sure, the lack of comments, likes and interaction in general can be perceived as a lack of appreciation and, I guess, in the long run posters will get discourages to share new images in these threads.

About your suggestion, I was thinking about it too to be honest, though it seemed a bit better after a difficult winter. Maybe I'll think go for a while like that, then I'll post a new poll about this to know what contributors would prefer (note: you can also react right here of course).

The poll should also be about continuing or giving up on this. If most people here like it more to post in their own threads, let the majority decide.

My worry with monthly threads: usually if no one contributes at the beginning of a week period, then nothing happens. I would worry about the monthly thread remaining empty for the rest of the month if it reaches page 2 of the forums ... A suggestion: if it's monthly, you can bump it up with a new message each week.

Cheers!

I guess a poll is not required anymore

I think I'll still open the very 2 last weekly threads before April 10th.
