Best flash for R System
1

Hi all,

I am trying to find out which is the best flash solution for indoor portraits in the Canon R System. I would like to have a small master flash for catchlights and a powerful slave for bouncing. Currently I am contemplating these options:

  • 470 Ex: Pro: self adjusting head. But why was it discontinued by Canon?
  • 430 Rt as a master. Is it any good?
  • El-5: Pro: Lithium battery, powerful. Con: no optical slave functionality, why?
  • El-100: Pro: smallest Canon flash, Con: no RF Master functionality
  • Godox Flashes: are they comparable to the Canon ?

What would you recommend?

Another option:

Would the inbuilt flash of the r10 give good results in conjunction with an optical slave flash?

I've been using the small EL-100 to trigger my 580EXii and my 470EX. It works like a charm. The advantage of this set up is I often only have the EL-100 in my regular camera bag because it's so small.

Heard good reviews about Godox. I just got used to Canon Speedlites which is why I never tried Godox.

Why was the 470 discontinued? Too expensive at the original price, probably no profit at the revised price.
But I love it, to be honest, tends to be the gun I use when I'm not using studio flash.

Same with me. I end up picking it up versus my 580EXii and 430EXii when I need a bigger flash. It's seamless to use with RF bodies.

I havent used flash since I moved to the RP and R6. Low light scenes are easily coped with and any noise can be removed with Photolab.

I like using my tiny Speedlite 90EX as a master for my larger Speedlites.
