Rain macros
8

Done today in heavy rain, with temperatures near zero degrees centigrade and heavy gusts of wind to boot.

Fun all the same, sort of ...

Here the results:

#1- daffodil:

#2 - leaf:

#3 - moss:

#4 - catkin:

#3 is a stack out of 15 images, the others single shots. All done hand held, OM-1, 90mm macro.

Thanks very much! The 4th is my favorite - I also wanted to do a stack of it, but the wind was to strong for that.

Great photos! Do you find the AF useful at close focusing ranges (say 1-2x)?

I'd say in those windy conditions I absolutely relied on AF; I used C-AF, because most things I tried were more or less constantly in motion. AF at closes distances is tricky and you're not successful all the time, but the lens/camera combo managed it very good IMO.

Re: Rain macros

Thanks, good to know! Very close to pulling the trigger on this lens myself. Do you find worth it compared to e.g. the 60mm?

I think yes.

It's too early for me for a definite answer on that, since I haven't had the chance to do much insect photography in the wild yet (spring will come, I'm sure!) - one of the fields where I hope the 90mm will excel and be even better than the 60mm.

But the first attempts I did stacking hand held with flowers and plants were very promising indeed. And going to 4x magnification without additional close-up lenses makes the 90mm/MC-20 combo with its really good stabilization something really special, I have to say. It's easy to handle - while it delivers the sharpness I need.

YMMV of course!
