But you can't turn off live view. The R5 has the option to do this (option 6 in the screen info options), but the R6 does not.

If you want a blank screen you have to turn it off completely, so it won't even work when you flip it out, without changing the settings. Note, even though there is an 'info' button to cycle through screen options, you cannot use this button to turn on/off the rear screen.

Even the R6 II is lacking this simple feature, so neither the R6 nor R6 II will behave like a DSLR unless you make the camera harder to use. Such a shame.

Also, image review is rubbish for some reason. Never looks sharp. All in all, though it has great IBIS and I love the size and weight of it, I still prefer my 5D4.

I love optical viewfinders, so I'd try the R6II if it had the blank screen option. But since it doesn't, the only mirrorless that might work for me is the R3 with the OVF simulation feature, or the as-yet unavailable R5 II.

Wow, so your "review" gives it 1 star b/c of one feature that doesn't work the way you want it to?

Not that it does not work the way the OP wants it to.

It is that it doesn’t work the way it should have in the first place!

A singel feature that doesn't work the way a user wants it to (saying "the way it should" is subjective) does not justify a 1-star review. It justifies a comment or complaint about a single feature, not trashing the entire camera.

Very helpful, thanks! Yes I have taken some rubbish photos, my words. In fact I take many, many rubbish photos.

Are we to assume from your mockery that you don't, or that you always remember to do everything you were going to, even with the many distractions of life?

Yes, anything on the rear LCD is a distraction for me. Dropping the LCD brightness helps somewhat, but of course then its no fun to show people the photos with dim light, so its not the best solution. 'Option 6' would be helpful in all the R cameras as an 'option'.

I'm not alone. The R5 has the solution already. R5 users asked for it, and some use it.

I guess some people enjoy mocking others anyway they can, get off on it? Enjoy the mean-spirited sense of togetherness from attacking the 'other'? What is the point I wonder? Does questioning the abilities of a camera cause you pain from cognitive dissonance? Go figure. I'm out.

How do you deal with things that are happening in real life outside the view of the EVF that you cannot turn off? It's difficult to understand how you are seeing the LCD once your eye is looking through the EVF. It's below the VF and outside the view of a human eye that is level with the VF.

It switches off when your face gats near the EVF sensor. I’m sure you knew that.

But even if it stayed on, it's kinda baffling how it's distracting to anyone.

Its okay for other people to be baffling, much better than for example, calling them silly or stupid just because you have a different experience, so don't sweat it, no worries.

The info screen options manage what is displayed on the rear LCD. Assuming sometimes people may want this blank but still available for touch drag af and image review, the best button to cycle through the options is the info button because that button is already doing that job.

We don't need to gatekeep the ability for users to request new features or vent frustration about their absence. The option is on the R5. If you own an R5 and don't want the blank screen, you can ignore it. Same with the R6 and other EOS models if it is added. There's nothing really more to write about the subject. I don't have the time or expertise to write an essay on ui design or philosophy. I just know what I like.

I totally understand that sometimes a single missing feature on anything a person buys could have a huge impact on their opinion of a device, if it's something you use often and it's not available that can be enough to not like it. What doesn't make sense is saying it ruins photos because you're shooting at arms length. So I will ask again, why are you not just using the viewfinder???
