Where is the R6m1 in the pyramid? Are they going to stop supporting it altogether? Its a newer camera than both R and RP.

The R6 has a direct replacement, the R and RP don't have a direct replacement. The R8 is a bit inbetween those two.

And at a guess: the R and RP have a lot of unsold stock left

“Improve Apps”? Are they devout members of the Church of Lie Your Butt Off?

Canon apps are abysmal. No.. English doesn’t have a word to describe how bad their software is. DPPro is completely unusable. Their Canon Connect should be called Canon Disconnect.

I wish DPReview would review this software. With his wry wit, Alastair could write an exceptional review of it all, I’m sure. “If I were reviewing deodorant, the contents of my septic tank would beat the extreme stinkiness of Canon’s software.”

"The RF-s 32mm f/1.4 USM will be the cornerstone of our aps-c commitment. Canon will also license Sigma to produce the RF-s 56mm f/1.4 to make our R50 a solid foundation of our RF pyramids. The 700 grams RF 85mm f/1.4 IS USM will be released as an entry level portrait prime as the RF 85mm f/1.2 focuses too slow, being too heavy and too expensive.  We will also lower the price of f/2.8 USM L zooms by at least 25% as an aggressive strategy to get at least 95% of that ever shrinking pie of mirrorless ilc cameras."

We all know this quote can't be found in those documents, so why bother reading it.

"As for RF lenses, last year we added 7 new models to our lineup which now consists of 33 lenses. Going forward as well, we will continue to expand our RF lens lineup in order to meet the diverse shooting needs of our users."

-A different Canon investor document

So it's not like they won't release any more new lenses.

I rather like the connect app and make great use of it. Be lost without it.

Being able to import directly to LR mobile would be handy and if it would be possible to move all files off a card direct to a mobile that would be appreciated.

You need a document to know Canon will release more lenses?  I don't.  Canon will release more lenses, that's for sure.

But not an RF-s 32mm f/1.4, no RF-s 56mm f/1.4, no RF 85mm f/1.4 IS ÜUSM, no RF 50mm f/1.4 ÜUSM. That's for sure as well.

I don't either. It looks like they want to maintain the rate of 7-8 new lenses per year.

At least on older PCs I agree that DPP4 is very slow, however, after recently upgrading my laptop to a new top-of-the-line model I'm finding it much more usable, although not exactly ideal. They need to optimize their code to take advantage of modern multicore CPUs.

Maybe they're just listening to the people who say

DPP4 is a good RAW converter with rudimentary tarting up facilities and doesn't impose a filing system on me, for which I'm eternally grateful. My 3+ year old Windows laptop has no trouble with it, my 4½ year old Windows tablet/laptop is OK, but better used for batch processing. Definitely not unusable with a proper computer.

The worst thing about Canon Connect is its Bluetooth initial connection (ironically it's there to simplify things) which means any previous Bluetooth connection (car radio, music headphones, hearing aids etc.) has to be forgotten before you use it.  Canon Utilities is more versatile but even clunkier if I try to use it wirelessly within range of my domestic wireless network.

I wish DPReview would review this software. With his wry wit, Alastair could write an exceptional review of it all, I’m sure. “If I were reviewing deodorant, the contents of my septic tank would beat the extreme stinkiness of Canon’s software.”

So what you're saying is that they need to improve their apps.   And Canon say they plan to.  And the trouble with that is?...

You're being very generous there with 'clunkier'! I really wish Canon made using an existing wifi network both easier and more reliable.

Canon was very close with this on the M50: it had a 'wifi' button, that when pushed would connect using a preconfigured config, including connecting to an existing wifi network. On my R5 I have to go into the menu, select connect and then click 'Yes', 'OK', Yes', 'Yes', 'Yes, really', 'No I don't have any Nikon gear nearby', 'Connect!!!!' for it to take 2 minutes to connect.

A wifi mode where it connect to a wifi network and then goes into powersave mode would be a great improvement. It would allow me to stay inside when checking if the camera trap triggered or not

The mobile device needs to forget other BT connections?

We've not noticed such a thing if I understand you correctly.

The R6 was removed from the shelves in my country. Non of the popular camera shops have it on offer.

The trouble is that Canon’s application software has been so absolutely terrible for so long that believing they’ll make meaningful improvements is a fool’s errand. DPPro will still be unusable in a year’s time. They just don’t seem to care. I’ve contacted them by phone, and their phone support people understand the cameras well but they have no clue about their software.
