Nice pics that bring back memories.

Yes, so many places eliminated them because so many of us were maimed or killed on them and other fun stuff, like Joey...no not Joey, maybe Sally...nope not her either, .. come to think of it, no one I ever knew, my family ever knew was really seriously hurt (the occasional broken arm or concussion was NOT a serious injury back then) on them. T venture that it was people not being responsible for their own actions and the growth in the number of lawyers that caused the disappearance.

If the snow would have always been that deep, then.... SNOWBALL FIGHT!! oops, those are not allowed anymore either.:-D

One of the big disappointments when I moved to ND from the South - the snow is so powdery and fluffy it doesn't make good snowballs. They just fall apart when you throw them.

C'mon man!! You have to warm that snow up with your bare hands and it'll pack. Toughen up!! lol

I used to call that the barf-o-matic.

Deaths on playgrounds existed, but were rare. The link mentions 34 investigated in the US, over a 5 year period. Not exactly a bloodbath.

It certainly was form some!  lol

Wow, I remember such proper snow back in the 60’s, whereas yesterday we got a “snowstorm” that lasted an hour and left 2mm on the ground which then disappeared in ten minutes

global warming for some….

The 2011 "Halloween storm" was on the 29th.

In Minnesota, mentioning The Great Halloween Blizzard once a year is mandatory.

Around here they talk about the Blizzard of '66 -

5 ND people died in that one, I think 18 total in all states.

Earlier in history:

"The Winds of Hell: Historical Photos of the 1940 Armistice Day Blizzard"

"A total of 154 people perished in the terrible storm. Over twenty were hunters who froze to death when they found themselves trapped in the onslaught of the ferocious storm."

It looks like DPR will be gone before this snow melts -

Tracks in the snow where someone walked out there. But they didn't spin it.

There was a trend, like the Tide pod challenge, of laying a motorcycle on it's side with the tire against the merry go round and reving up the merry go round to impossible speeds that would hurt people. Videos on YouTube of it but mostly no serious injuries, by some miracle, as the kids came off at supersonic speeds.

Hmmm, I never thought I'd say this, but maybe we need more lawyers.

It looks like Santa's sleigh may have gotten stuck in a snow drift.

IF that photo is geo-coordinated please post them so we can go rescue the jolly fellow!!!

Re: If you know what this is...

The official word, according to the local rag -

DICKINSON - Dickinson residents are no strangers to the snow, but as seen by the mounds of snow accumulated around town this year, the city has shattered its previous snow record by over 20 inches already this snow season.

With a previous record of 74.8 inches in 2010-2011, Dickinson has well surpassed that number, with the amount currently sitting at 96.2 inches according to the National Weather Service.

Over half of the current total snowfall happened in March alone at 38.7 inches so far.

And we're known for some nasty April blizzards.

I wonder what type of pics a guy could get of Fourth of July fireworks reflecting off snow covered fields.

2 days of 40+ temps made a little difference -

but now we're in for a week of below freezing temps and 2 shots of more snow. 23 and freezing fog right now, for a gray day.

Wasn't spring supposed to be here by now? Somebody shoot that groundhog.

Yes, that's definitely Santa's sleigh!!!

Here in NorCal it's a beautifully sunny day of about 65 degrees. I'm going for a mountain bike ride when I get off work!!!

Wait a minute. I'm throwing a flag.

This isn't your fault, but it's a subtle slant of the paper.

The paper is about deaths on playground-type equipment, not specifically on public playgrounds.

These are not, for the most part, playground deaths. The paper says:

"...2,758 (92 percent) occurred at home (66 percent) or restaurant locations (26 percent)."

Most were on "playground equipment" in people's backyards. Another quarter were at places like McDonald's.

Only eight percent were at public playgrounds.

That's a little odd.

8% of 34 is 2.7. As deaths are integers, that should be 3. 3 out of 34 is 8.8%, which rounds to 9%. The authors can't do arithmetic properly?

Do you think that lumping together deaths from all "playground equipment" to bring the 5 year total up to 34 is sensationalism? I think that 34 is a fairly small number, even if they were all on public playgrounds.

For contrast, check the number of kids who hang themselves on the cords from window blinds.

Yes, I think sensationalism is what they were going for.
