...then you might have an idea how deep the snow is around here.

I hear there are places that don't allow these any more.

That pic was last Saturday. This is today -

Not doing much hiking, but still getting plenty of exercise.

I got smart in my old age. We don't do this any more -

We bought one of these -

Okay, maybe I just got lazy. But it's a lot more fun!

I feel your pain. We have had our 10th biggest snow season and considering I currently live in Utah that is quite a lot of snow. Great to see, we need the snow. I grew up on the coasts and did not see snow fall from the sky until I was 20 years old.

I don't have any quick at hand, but here are two I took at Mesa Arch in Canyonlands a few weeks ago. Lots of snow at the Islands of the Sky a few weeks ago.

Re: If you know what this is...

If it makes you feel any worse, here in SW Connecticut, we've had one 6" snowfall. It was mostly gone after a couple of days.

In NY City, I believe they've had less than 2" of snow. Average for the date is closer to 24".

It's only fair. In late October of 2011 we had a snow/ice storm. The leaves were still mostly on the trees, and a friend remarked that the outdoors sounded like constant gunfire due to breaking tree branches. My power was down for about a week. (As it had been in August, due to Hurricane Irene.)

Probably because of people like me who knew about conservation of angular momentum and organizing a group to gang up on an unsuspecting victim and all pull in at the same time.

Nice pics that bring back memories.

Yes, so many places eliminated them because so many of us were maimed or killed on them and other fun stuff, like Joey...no not Joey, maybe Sally...nope not her either, .. come to think of it, no one I ever knew, my family ever knew  was really seriously hurt (the occasional broken arm or concussion was NOT a serious injury back then) on them. T venture that it was people not being responsible for their own actions and the growth in the number of lawyers that caused the disappearance.

If the snow would have always been that deep, then.... SNOWBALL FIGHT!! oops, those are not allowed anymore either.:-D

I used to call that the barf-o-matic.

Deaths on playgrounds existed, but were rare. The link mentions 34 investigated in the US, over a 5 year period. Not exactly a bloodbath.

One of the big disappointments when I moved to ND from the South - the snow is so powdery and fluffy it doesn't make good snowballs. They just fall apart when you throw them.

There was a trend, like the Tide pod challenge, of laying a motorcycle on it's side with the tire against the merry go round and reving up the merry go round to impossible speeds that would hurt people.  Videos on YouTube of it but mostly no serious injuries, by some miracle, as the kids came off at supersonic speeds.

Re: If you know what this is...

We're at 75+ inches of snowfall this season in the Minneapolis area and most of it is still on the ground. We've had a few days of above freezing temperatures, so I can actually see the top of some of my Christmas lawn decorations for the first time since December. Until now they have just been a glow in the snow.

I'm pleased to have missed that.

Have you seen the film Idiocracy ? Maybe it's less of a reduction to absurdity than I thought.

That's a timeless cult classic. "This probe goes in your mouth, this probe goes in your ear, and this probe goes in your rear end."  "Wait, I'm always mixing those up."

Yeah, I remember the ice storm on Oct 31, 2011. Thanks heavens I had a whole house generator, so i had power the whole time.

The way I look at it, there are lots of losers from Climate change/Global warming, so someone has to be a winner and it might as well be those of us in CT. This has been one of the nicer winters (so far) of the last 28 years that I have lived here.

But there may be a storm next week they say…

Re: If you know what this is...

The 2011 "Halloween storm" was on the 29th.

I suppose that might matter to someone, but probably not.

My new next-door neighbor has a Generac. I haven't priced one.

The tree trimming Eversource had done in my area a few years ago seemed to be more for PR than for real protection.

Yeah, you’re right. I keep thinking the 31st because it was at the end of the month. I do know it was the first time there had been a heavy snowfall before Oct 31st in many years, (at least 20) and I think it was the heaviest on record. Down on the Shoreline where I live it was the first time we’ve had an actually Snow storm before Halloween!

I love my generator though, especially when we lost power again during Sandy the next year…

Re: If you know what this is...

Can't use my 'snow gauge' now. Yesterday's blizzard put it completely under.

5 inches of snow, 50 MPH winds, closed 300 miles of interstate.

More wind and snow for today.
